Did you ever end up trying the Abbey Ale from Great River Brewery?

Holy shit was it great.

I forgot to mention, when I was at Great River last weekend they didn't have the Abbey Ale. She said they only have it around Christmas usually. They had two stouts (Straight Pipe and Redband), 483 Pale Ale, Farmer Brown, Roller Damn Red and I think another beer that was a barrel-aged variety of one of the above beers. Can't remember which, though.

Also had a chance to drink some more Dry Hopped Pale Ale from Bent River. Still don't love the place, but this beer is damn good. I think it's probably my favorite locally brewed beer overall.

I also remembered the beer I had at Granite City that I liked. It's called Batch 1000. They list it as a double/imperial IPA, but it honestly tastes more like a normal American IPA (except for the 9% ABV). Still good, though.

Tonight I'm drinking Dark Horse Crooked Tree IPA. It's very good, IMO. Very drinkable for an IPA.

With all the beer talk in the cbmb thread I thought I'd bump this one back up. It's pretty funny to read my own posts from a while ago and see how my tastes have changed. I drink IPAs almost exclusively now, with a stout from time to time.

If I had to name a few of my favorite beers these days, the first that come to mind would be Firestone Walker Union Jack IPA, Double Jack IPA, Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale and Modus Hoperandi. Been drinking those a lot lately.

I'm pretty stoked about a craft beer fest in town here this weekend. Some buddies and I are going and I plan on trying a lot of stuff. The same place is also having a Goose Island tap party tomorrow with their imperial IPA, Bourbon County Stout and Marisol. Gonna check that out as well.

I probably drink too much beer.

Some favorites: Rochefort (particularly the 8, think the 10 is a bit too much.), St. Bernardus 12, Westmalle Tripel, Chouffe Houblon, Avery Maharaja, Great Lakes Lake Erie Monster, St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout, Founders Porter, Founders Red Rye, etc. etc. For a bigger list: http://pintley.com/user/Oskoreien/rated/

Bitburger in draught cans. A little hard to find, but can be found in Chicago area. It's similar to Becks or Warsteiner, but much better.

I lived in Bitburg for 3 years. We called that Shitburger. It is an acquired taste for sure. Germans would mix 1/2 beer 1/2 coke. They had a name for it, can't remember it.

I couldn't even find Bitburg on a map if I wanted to, but mixing soda and beer together sounds like a waste of both to me.

Spotted Cow anyone? Definitely my favorite but since I'm a poor college student I often get stuff with the cheap stuff that tastes like piss water. Oh well, beer is beer!
