Trying to use the fact that Bagent gets rid of the ball quickly to take a shot at his physical skills is a strange approach. We all know Bagent is a backup who was embraced by Bear fans hungry for something positive in yet another season of absolute dreck. His Cinderalla story provided that.

Yes, he has physical limitations. Most undrafted free agents do. But the reason The Kid gets rid of the ball quickly is not because he knows he has a bad arm but rather because he has been coached to do so (like all quarterbacks are) and he has the aptitude to process it and translate it to the physical. The latter is where Bustin Fields appears to be limited. And that's a red flag, because quarterbacks who are slow at processing what is happening don't succeed in the NFL.

You can run real fast and throw the ball a long ways, but if you can't master processing and timing you're dead meat in the NFL. It's what separates the professionals from the amateurs. Which one is Bustin? He has 8 games to show us; 8 games, frankly, to salvage his career as an NFL starter. If he implodes as badly as he did at the start of the season he can go the way of the Trubiskys who came before him.

That's it, fellas. You either have the heart and head to play quarterback in the NFL or you don't. It's a bad sign when a first-round draft pick doesn't seem to have that, and it's a doubly bad sign when he whines about "too much coaching" when they try to spoon feed it to him. Like the shoopster said elsewhere within this thread, if Bustin plays Thursday, and he "plays free," this whole thing is only gonna end up one way . . .
Bagent has make up his deficiencies with a quick release. You saw what happened in 2nd half. NO adjusted and played more man to man. He doesn’t have the arm strength. Bagent doesn’t have an NFL arm.

Is it as bad as Chad Pennington?

In theory yes.,....dude still needs to get rid of the ball and struggles with progression of route tree......he already had the longest time from snap to thrown in the leauge.

Ok route tree. Which route(S) is necessary that should be incorporated by the OC to help JF get the ball out quicker ?
I already know the answer. Whats your answer?

".he already had the longest time from snap to thrown in the leauge.?

this doesn't take into account 👉JF moving around to avoid the collapsing pocket

Not surprising, guessing they just listed him "day to day" to keep the panthers guessing.

If he wasn't able to play on sunday I can't imagine anything would change in 4 days, especially when you have a mini bye after tomorrow.

That's not true. His arm is fine. The interceptions were ball placement. At least the second two. First one he just misread the defense. Had nothing to do with arm strength.

There have been QBs that have had success with arms similar to Bagent. It's all about anticipation and accuracy. 2 of his 3 interceptions are completions if the ball is accurate and on time. The other one was just a bad decision.

I am not saying that Bagent should start over Fields. I am just saying that he deserves to be the backup next season and to get starts whenever there is an injury. The Bears can do this for 3 more years even before they decide they want to give him a 2nd contract. Fields has to prove himself the last so many games in order for the Bears to roll with him next year.

lol, its arm strength AND ball placement.

He has a noodle, its pretty evident when you watch him throw anywhere outside the numbers. He's fortunate to only have had 3 INT's in that game.

Outside of drew brees, who do you know in the last decade?

If you cant throw a 20 yard out you aren't an NFL QB these days.

Why does the last decade matter though? Because the game has changed and you have to play a certain way to succeed?

Brees is the example the last decade and Peyton Manning the decade before that. It's all about being on time and accurate. You can even throw a 20 yard out if you baited the DB off the receiver with your eyes and threw it at the exact moment.

Don't get me wrong. It's not ideal. It's not likely to work out where he breaks out into a star in the making like Brees. But we are talking about keeping a guy for cheap as a backup QB. We are not talking about rolling with this guy as are starting QB next year.

He can’t get zip on the ball. The ball is getting there late due to it. Everyone can see it but you.

It's a short week and the Bears have a bye next week. It's obvious that Fields was not going to start against Carolina. They want him near 100%

statmuse stopped at game 1/1/2023 so the stats are actually worse now. So many negative plays by qb #1

6-25 as a starter, lol
113 sacks eaten
35-26 td/int ratio is godawful at the nfl level.

Statmuse didn't post fumbles, that's gotta be up there. Even if you recover said fumble it's an automatic loss of down, lost yardage, shitty field position and again gets the other team fired up.

Yet these stats will be worth FOURTY FIVE MILLION CAP HIT in a couple years. OUCH
U said Bagent is amazing in pocket, u been telling us

Last season reference Fields

According to a scathing graphic from PFF, the Bears are the worst team in the NFL in both quarterback pressures and wide receiver separation rate.

But I take it, that is ideal and the norm for QBs. Oh and ref fumbles, Allen has 51 ....could it be maybe the defense stops opposition?

I know people don’t like Greg Gabriel but he completely disagrees with this.

It's funny because this one if not only 'must-win' game for the Bears. They actually have something to play for in bolstering CAR bid for the #1 overall draft pick.

Watch these idiots lose to CAR...
