Hutton Named Reebok/AHL Player of the Week
Springfield, MA – The American Hockey League announced today that Rockford IceHogs goaltender Carter Hutton has been selected as the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Mar. 4, 2012.

In three games last week, Hutton went 2-0-1 with a 1.30 goals-against average and a .963 save percentage, allowing only four goals on 107 shots as the IceHogs continued their pursuit of a postseason berth in the Western Conference.

Hutton began the week by making 35 saves in Rockford’s 3-2 seven-round shootout loss to Abbotsford on Feb. 29. Facing a pair of critical road tests over the weekend, Hutton then stopped 44 of 45 shots in a big 3-1 victory at Milwaukee on Mar. 2, and registered 24 saves as the IceHogs rallied for a 2-1 win in Peoria on Mar. 3.

A second-year pro, Hutton has played 29 games for Rockford this season, posting a 15-8-3 record with a 2.50 goals-against average, a .916 save percentage and two shutouts. The native of Thunder Bay, Ont., made his pro debut with Adirondack (AHL) after completing his senior season at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell in 2009-10, and spent his rookie campaign with Worcester last year. Hutton, who shows a career mark of 27-17-6 with four shutouts in 55 AHL appearances, signed as a free agent with the Chicago Blackhawks on Feb. 23, 2012.

In recognition of his achievement, Hutton will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming IceHogs home game.

It's amazing to me that the IceHogs aren't one of the top teams in the AHL despite having so many NHL ready/good prospect players. Right now they're a .500 team. I wouldn't expect that.

Players like Morin, Pirri, and Smith are all good. And until recently they had Hayes and Shaw too.

You have to take into account there's only 3-5 players who have 3+ years of experience playing professionally. This is a very young team and are definately improving. To say that this team should be better because they have those names is just kinda silly to me.

New once have I been a fan of Beach. The guy is a moron on and off the ice. He still really needs to improve his foot speed and pick his spots better. Hopefully he comes back from injury strong and proves me wrong.

Has Lalonde gotten any better positioning wise? I feel like he can rely on his skill set in the AHL but without better positioning he would get burned in the NHL. I wouldn't be against trading him away with young guys like Leddy/Olsen who could be mainstays in the NHL.

How's Jeremy Morin doing this year?

I ask because he turns into a LW sniper in NHL 12. I hope that happens in real life.

And I know it's not Ice Hog related, but the No. 2 Hawks prospect Brandon Saad is destroying the OHL this season: 42 games, 33 goals, 41 assists. He's a +34 on a team whose goal differential is -5. Holy hell.
