That.... or maybe guys like you and me, who don't do this for a living, don't know what the fuck we're talking about? If 10 teams are interested there is obviously SOMETHING appealing about the guy.
I mean, he has upside. No question. And I understand why teams would be intrigued, but the fact that he's a "hot name" is very telling. I mean, every year most of the players who get big deals in free agency end up underperforming. What's appealing is exactly what I pointed out before. It's much easier for everyone-from fans to GMs-to see the upside in players from other organizations then their own. Case in point, Sweezy. 10 penalties for 100 yards at guard? Of course a coach thinks they can fix that. But can they? He's a mediocre player with an overly aggressive nature. Again, something coaches ythink they can fix.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Free agency is fool's gold. You have to be very careful where you invest and very often guys who get big deals or were "hot names" end up being beat out by players already on the roster. It's like going to a bar for girls. You get there, all the pretty ones end up being taken, by the end of the night, you're convincing yourself that this girl isn't so bad, her teeth are only a little crooked, her eyes just a little crossed and her voice is just kind of annoying. But nothing some low lighting and another shot of whiskey won't fix. Then the morning comes.
