This is totally continuing the derail but it is an interesting article from 'someone in the know'. It is slightly outdated (2009).

Debunking Canadian health care myths

that's not debunking myths at all. We are taxed much more than you, we do have waits, some as long as years for medical procedures, and we do have lots of people that go to the States for treatment. A coworker of mine just went down for treatment on her MS because we don't offer it (we don't cover it)

At the end of the day, the average after-tax income of Canadian workers is equal to about 82 percent of their gross pay

such bullshit. in Ontario, the lowest tax bracket is 18% of your paycheck. That's the lowest. The highest is 48% This article claims that the average is the lowest is a bunch of bullshit. Not to mention that we pay 13% tax on everything we purchase, we pay over $5.50 a gallon in gas, etc. If he wants to point to the tax "myth" he should use all of the taxes, instead of simply saying that the lowest is the average. Bullshit article.

That's not what I meant. No healthcare jobs in Canada are government jobs unless they are tied to the military bases. There are private companies that receive payment from the government when billing for a service.

when something is considered an "essential service" I would consider it to be a government job, since the government decides what you are making, decides what you are working, and it is illegal for you to strike etc.

the mule does a co-op with a car and we take public transit to get around.

I don't give a shit how much money people have to spend on leisure driving, that's not a public interest. If you run a business that depends on fuel/gas or if you really need your vehicle to get to and from work or for legit responsibilities then you have my empathy. And I certainly am concerned about how gas prices effect everything else. But if anyone is complaining about gas prices because it effects their leisure drives? I really don't care nor should anyone for that matter. Just as no one cares about the cost of paints and canvas for what i do for leisure.

I really wonder how many people ***** about gas prices only for due to leisure purposes only. I bet it's a lot.

My job is driving around. Roughly 120 miles per day in the Chicagoland area. I don't know how many kilometers that is for our Canadian friends here. I drive a white Kia Sephia I named Sexual Chocolate. I fill up roughly every 2 days, give or take.

Luckily, I can write off .55 per mile on my taxes. I lowered my income tax by about 10k on mileage alone. That was nice. However, fuel prices going up sucks, not only for me, as it cuts directly into my take home pay, but for all the crap we as a society needs. Jobs will be lost, as companies will have to decide if hauling their widget or good to point B will be worth it.

Jako once again with the excellent points. It is not only the cost of the fuel, but the cost of everything else that depends on that fuel. Bravo!

I thought everyone except the hippies realized that's why the cost of produce and food and everything else is getting more expensive too.

No, we just steal those.

Hey, if you worked at an adult novelty store, and I came in and grabbed a few giant silicone dongs, swung them wildly around and was yelling "I HAVE THE CHICKEN!", I doubt you would stop me.

I work over 30 miles from home and the trains from my neighborhood to downtown St. Louis suck balls and don't get within 3 miles of my actual work location. I also go to night school twice a week (7 miles away) and play hockey once a week (7 miles away also, plus no one bikes with a hockey bag and sticks). The bus route that could take me to the grocery store or a Target and Home Depot stops about a mile from my house. Cars are essential in rural/metro St. Louis, even though they made a half assed attempt to bring public trans to the region and my area.
