I don't think he cost them too much...at least he tried to start something and take a decent player out for 5 minutes.

Having Nick Leddy, Morin or even my guy Shaw tonight wouldn't haven't mattered.

The Hawks missed Shaw, and I think HawkWriter said it best, that guy is just a pest. He has some skill, but also some grit and will get under eveyone else's skin.

He's someone I like the Hawks having around and they are obviously a better team with Shaw than they are without him.

So ... thoughts on Brookbank's play in Game 3?

He was okay, mostly because he was next to Keith a lot. But the other side of the coin is that Q was constantly moving all the dmen around for the first two periods. To their credit, they managed to hold things together until late. Seabrook and Keith are rock solid together and usually play about half the game....why would you break that up? Doesn't make any sense to me.

Another thing I was thinking about is that while admittedly Leddy had a bad game 2....he's been left out to dry all year as Q kept rotating different dmen into the lineup and they always partnered up with Leddy. He has one bad game....gets unceremoniously pulled in the 3rd, then is replaced when he's going home to play in front of friends and family in his hometown. Just wondering how that sat with the rest of locker room.

You're right ... it was really, really weird timing to scratch Leddy for the first time in 3 years.

Perhaps Q is thinking this series won't be all that difficult either and he's sending some messages to the locker room for the rest of the postseason?

I think Q has more trusted options this year than before. That's how he can bench Steeger and Leddy. brookbank proved to show up well already.

Also I think Q may think he needs to so something more than just limit Leddy to short limits in the 3rd because he did that last postseason already.

Interesting line combos at practice today:

Bickell-Toews-Smith
Saad-Kruger-Kane
Sharp-Handzus-Hossa
Bollig-Nordstrom-Morin

Versteeg the odd man out, still no sign of Shaw.

Interesting points made by Hawks blogger @FifthFeather on Twitter:

Pretty obvious that Quenneville is looking to punish Wild 3rd d pairing with these line combos

One of either Toews, Kane/Saad or Sharp/Hossa will have their run at Stoner

I like those combos TBH.... when Game 3 kept bumping along at 0-0 I started wishing we would just split up Kane, Toews, and Hossa and have one of them on the ice for every single shift cause all 3 of them are managing to take it to the net on their own depending on who Minnesota puts up against them.... of course Kaner's beast mode goal being the most obvious example.

I think rolling 3 lines like that could become very dangerous for Minny in certain spots :D

This has always been the Hawks key to success, IMO: the ability to victimize teams that don't have solid defensive depth. There are so few teams in the NHL that have three solid D pairings. Having 3 good scoring lines will doom the Wild. They don't have much behind Suter and Brodin.

Leddy also will be back for Game 4, per Q today. Assuming that means Brookbank is out.

After I trade Crapoli for Brookbank on NHL 11 :(.

Also, I see the rationale for splitting Hossa, Toews, Kane, but I really think for 16 games, they can win with a Bickell/Toews/Kane line. I really think those guys fit nicely together, especially for a relatively short playoff run.

Eh, there's times I've liked those line combos of spread out with that style but often it's not efficient.

Reminds me of game 6 vs Phoenix he had 4 lines of the top 4 forwards on each line and Hawks dominated play period 1 but everytime Kane or sharp made plays, they were setting up partners who blew great chances, hurt that those partners were guys like Brendan Morrison n company.

Sharp has been struggling these entire playoffs.

So, lets put fucking Handzus with him.
