Wow, that is a lot of words.

TL;DR Söze did not want anyone alive to be able to recognize him. He failed and now everyone can recognize him. Some things went well for him, but ultimately he failed.

The short answer is the only person that knows the truth is Kint and he tells us his motive. At one point the Hungarians came after him because they wanted his business and terroritory and he responded by killing them all leaving one survivor to spread his legend. He then goes after them after his family is buried and kills the rest of them before disappearing.

The whole point of Kint relaying this story is to tell the audience Soze's motives without revealing Kint is Soze. We know this because history repeats itself. The Hungarians are coming after him again. They don't simply want his identity, they want Marquez to reveal his business and operations. Soze arranged for the Argentinians to offer them Marquez and then he kills them all leaving one survivor and from his own mouth says you will never hear from him again. He needs a big prize to lure them out so he offers them one ie his identity via Marquez.

So not sure why you think Kujan is to be believed over Kint. Kujan has misread the situation from the start because he underestimates Kint. The two stories and how they unfold are pretty similar revealing this as the real motive.

Nothing you have said changes the fact that he failed. Everyone now knows exactly what he looks like, that was not his goal, it's the exact opposite. The rest of that shit is irrelevant.

Can we please return this thread to it's original topic?

I read the whole thing and thought it was a good explaination of it. There were a lot of signs along the way like he mentioned, but when I watched it for the first time, I had no clue it was Kint.

And yet as he said quite clearly in the end you will never see him again.

Kint signed an immunity deal in exchange for his statement, there are no witnesses left and all Kujan has now is a sketch from a dead guy. There isn't going to be a lot of people willing to expend resources chasing a ghost and a sketch from a dead guy isn't going to be enough to overturn an immunity deal because Kujan has no authority or jurisdiction.

Kujan is a customs agent. His interrogation of Kint was simply a courtesy extended to him by the FBI agent (Baer) hence why it took place in an office. Soze is turkish and comes from the phrase Soze bogmak which means to talk unnecessarily and cause confusion or to drown in words. So the whole conversation between Kint and Kujan has no impact on his immunity deal because it was just Soze shooting the shit with Kujan while he was waiting for his immunity deal paperwork to come through. Kint was basically taunting Kujan to see if he could figure it out before his immunity came through and Kujan just missed doing so. We know this was just a taunt because again he had no obligation to talk to Kujan because he already agreed his immunity deal with the people that had jurisdiction.

Kujan can do nothing based on essentially an off the record conversation and a sketch from a dead guy that any decent lawyer would get thrown out since the guy is dead and can't be cross examined and was in basically a delirious state. We all known Kint was on the ship so all the sketch proves is he was present is what any lawyer would say. There is no corroborating evidence that proves Kint killed anyone or is some mastermind that most people claim don't exist.

The movie gave you all you needed to realize Soze won but I guess if you want to feel he didn't then so be it.

Cool plan, go live in a spider hole for the rest of your life because everyone knows exactly what you look like. Before his brilliant plan was executed to a tee, he could go anywhere he wanted on the planet without a worry in the world.

Mission accomplished?

You know remy, on second thought I completely agree with you. Your analysis of this film is spot on, I was wrong.

I now return control of this thread to fine posters of CCS. Please list more good movies.

My kids and I love to watch "School of Rock" and "Elf" together.

My son likes Elf so much he has copied the Buddy the Elf outfit and wears it out and about, hilarious.

My son does that too, he knows every line from the movie. Him and my daughter decorate the house at Christmas time very similar to how Buddy did at the Dept store. it's way too much.

This makes no sense. Marquez knew what he looked like and was going to reveal his face as well as knowledge of his business so he had to do something.

He chose to eliminate Marquez as well as his enemies by luring them to the same spot. It was his best choice given the circumstances. And he succeeded in killing Marquez and all his enemies present that night.

Your beef seems to be that Soze wasn't God and couldn't make everything go exactly his way which is just dumb. His plan was sound. He executed it well and OMG, one person out of 30 people survived long enough to have a sketch made up.

A sketch that is worthless because the dude died, Kint has immunity, and the only guy that knows the truth doesn't have enough evidence to prove Kint is Soze. The only way this is a fail is if you ignore the entire story and pretend like Kujan had the power to do anything about his knowledge. He doesn't. He's a customs officer dude with a finger painting.
