semantics.
That's not semantics. Instead of just getting a draft pick we're also gettting a player that might actually play on our team this year. At the very least he'll be insurance for us.

No to Ovechkin because I don't think he was trying to injure Campbell. And no to Wiz also... Wiz would have his face rearranged and know NEVER to do something like that again (although his 8 game suspsension was enough for that).

There were countless times this year and the year previous in GDTs and chats where people were wishing "Player X" was dressed to put an end to whatever shenanigans was going on the ice. And there will be those games this year and I am pretty sure Q is going to choose his spots wisely when he has Scott dress.

Obviously you aren't going to see Scott play against the Wings/Panthers/Kings etc...
Bullshit. You obviously don't know Wiz too well.

Having Scott would have stopped NONE of the questionable hits mentioned in this thread. Not one of them. The Money he was fined how ever.

Again the "Blind Side Rule" if dealt out correctly will do FAR MORE than having a bone head who can't really skate and dresses 1/3rd of the season. It's so obvious I can't believe it's a question.
I do find it humerous that we're 8 pages into this thread on a free agent that probably won't play much.
Yea I was just thinking about that, there's a pretty good chance this moron doesn't make the team. Or sits in the AHL the whole year. Which is what I hope, maybe we can trade him to the Rangers for Gaborik, cause apparently to them fighting wins championships......

Prospect that has yet to be mentioned. May or may not pan out. May or may not hit the NHL.

Semantics.

Well as long as the Rangers have Sather as a GM the Rangers only hope is to have a fighter to draw attention. But dipshit Sather spent 3x more on Boogaard than we played for Scott for essentially the same player.

Whole lot of time and energy being wasted on a 6-7th D man, a position we all knew would need to be filled with the departure of Sopel and most likely Hendry and Boynton. And it was filled for the league minimum.

I wonder if this roster slot was filled by a guy who wasn't 6'8" and could "thow em" if the response would be the same?

We are talking about the Ladd trade, right?

We got Ivan Vishnevskiy. You are right, he may not pan out, but it's still better than just a 2nd round pick.

Let me also add... he could be a good sparkplug for the minimal amount of games he's going to play.

His fight with Parros, the Wild were down 3-0... he drops the gloves with Parros, beats him up... Wild go on to win the game 4-3 in OT.

A GOOD fighter injects energy into the arena which translates to the players... imagine him being able to drop the gloves and win a fight in decisive manner over a Chara/Lucic/Iginla/Orr/Ivanans/Parros/Konopka/Carkner/Janssen/Neil/Ott/Boll... yes, I realize we don't play a lot of those guys more than 1-2 times a year, but Q is going to know when to use him.

We haven't had someone that could take those "heavyweights" on and win in a long time. I hope he plays against all of those guys to keep them in check and be the spark plug if the Hawks go down early.

And in the NHL pre-season......

My response would be good, our rookies would play much better, be paid the same, and develop into better and better players, something Scott won't do.

You really don't want Lalonde fighting. He's potentially too valuable.

I know, which is a good thing. Great talent, and knowing that when necessary he'll fight, and fight well.

I don't need YouTube for lalonde, a guy I'm very high on. I think he will be a great NHLer, just not sure he's ready to play this comming year. And if he's ends up splitting time with Scott or whoever I won't think that's a bad thing. Once again, Scott is the Hawks' 6-7th D with NHL experience. The depth is gone, look at most team's 6-7th D and you'll see a whole lot of John Scotts. You think Pens fans were salivating over Jay McKee? But he filled a role.

General statement: I just love how people shit all over a player who hasn't played one second in a Hawks uni. How about we wait and see what Q and the staff can do with this guy.? Eager was pretty one dimensional in Philly and blossomed into something different here. Maybe Scott will be decent, maybe he'll suck to high heaven, but how bout we wait for him to do it?

How about no. How about you go out and sign the two remaining RFA's and get some type of lower replacement for the 3rd and 4th liners who left. Instead of bringing in something worse than what we had on the entire team last year.

How bout it.

and just an FYI I don't see many teams 6th 7th D man being 6 foot 8 and 270. You think those guys skate well that arent named Chara? Really? All you have to do is go read what Minny Fans think of him. You know the place you say is great to watch a game and the fans really know what they are talking about? Because so far the only real comments I heard is that he will be a constant scratch and can't skate worth shit. IE Koci who can fight. God bless them for giving him to us. YEA let me jump for fucking JOY now.

What's Niemi and Hjarlmarsson asking for, RK?

Just open the checkbook, and pay them whatever they want - a la DT...then purge again next year?

It's kind of hard to bag on them for not being signed, when no one knows the parameters of that they're asking for.

Other RFA's not signed yet -

Eric Johnson

Blake Wheeler

Bobby Ryan

Peter Mueller

Braden Coburn

etc......

Theres a shitload out there that havent been signed yet, I'm sure theres been talks.

Get it done. Don't give them the farm but get it done. Unless of course they have offers from other teams. Who knows. It sucks nothing but dishing players out has been complete.

That's righ it's John Scott's fault Niemi and Hammer haven't been signed yet. Dumb **** Bowmans must have been spending all their free time watching tape of him instead of negotiating with their RFAs. That shitbag Scott, I hate him.

pmxc - Coburn signed but Hanzel, an important piece of PHX, hasn't yet. Guess they shouldn't have signed anyone like Whitney until they locked Hanzel up.
