Whole lot of time and energy being wasted on a 6-7th D man, a position we all knew would need to be filled with the departure of Sopel and most likely Hendry and Boynton. And it was filled for the league minimum.

I wonder if this roster slot was filled by a guy who wasn't 6'8" and could "thow em" if the response would be the same?
That's a very good point.

Whats also kind of funny and ironic is most time message board geniuses are always calling out the Hawks for being too soft.

Really...I'm trying to make a big deal out of it?

Ok...I guess so...

I don't see anyone here overly excited about it one way or the other except Grimson and he's all for it.

Yea I'm excited to watch him play a few games this year against teams that make me want to break things because of the hack shit certain teams do. Other then that, I don't think the 500K is a big deal. Nor do I think he's good at hockey... but he serves a purpose.

I'm gonna go ahead and leave it alone for now... but when he's responsible for a spark that leads to a Blackhawks win, I am bumping this thread.

As I said I reserve judgement until the guy at least plays one friggin shift.

One spark that leads to one win, is not thread bumping worthy. Just FYI.

He'll be a hero as soon as he beats the **** out of someone who deserves it, don't worry...
We'll see........... it'll do so much to heal the injury that the person "who deserves an ass beating" delivered..... get real, this team is all about talent, you don't score from the box.

Ok, RK...who the **** should they go sign to "improve" the team - with no cap room.

I know, you want Nik and Anti signed 3 days ago....but can you wait until the Hawks lose them to be upset they're not here?

Good... I hope he baits players that can score into the box for 5 minutes.

I'm not even looking for that, we have an ass-load of talent in the pipeline, next year we obviously won't have the depth of last, but I absolutely hate any notion of needing an enforcer on this team, and now we got one for 2 years.

Let's be realistic, he's not going to get any big time scores to fight him. If he plays it will be to keep Jansen and the other hacks in the division off the ice.

Hahahaha, nice signature.

But really the pro's of an enforcer are very little, the cons are somewhat endless to me. And really, whens the last time a 6'8'' enforcer who can't skate baited a bona-fide scorer into the box? Maybe if he wasn't Goliath it would be possible, but all were gonna see is two idiots like Parros and him pairing off, thats not even fighting, thats all show. Give me a fight like Steeg vs. Eaves where guys ACTUALLY have talent and ACTUALLY want to beat the others ass.

That fight was fucking awesome... I didn't know Steeger could throw em like that.

Well it's not as intriguing as Boogaard in NYR (LOL@SATHER) because Boogaard will have to face Chara/Lucic 6x a year he'll have to face Konopka who signed with the Islanders 6x a year and he'll get to run through Philly 6x a year.

He's going to be fairly useless except for 10-15-20 games this year but it's not like that 500K is going to mess with any signings we still have to do.

And without a guy like this you have certain teams that will be playing like complete fucking hack jobs and then someone like TOEWS has to step up (see last year's game against the Blues when he fought) and then your best goal scorer is in the box for 5 minutes. Would you rather have Toews/Sharp/Brouwer in the box or John Scott?

They already tried that, we won all those games, we won the fucking cup. Just like when we had Dowd, Barnaby, Simpson, Vandermeer and we tried to rough up the Red Wings, the won those games and they won the cup. I hope Scott is taking skating lessons, cause I know Q won't allow some moron who can't skate back there.

So what? That didn't answer the question...

...yea we won the Cup LAST season, John Scott is signed for NEXT season where we won't have as much scoring depth and losing Toews/Sharp/Brouwer for 5 minutes is going to be more critical.

People are hilarious and there's no one fighting and really nothing to ***** about so we go up in arms over a league minimum insurance policy that's not going to affect our other signings and will keep hack teams in check.

I agree we won't have as much depth, but how signing Scott just decreases any extra possible depth. Why didn't we just keep Greenop?

Beach, Bickell, Dowell, Lalonde, Brouwer, Seabrook, all have no problem throwing them.

I'd say of those names, I wouldn't care if Bickell or Dowell went to the box.

Scott serves no purpose, we have just as much toughness as last year assuming Dowell, Beach, and Bickell make the team -- all of which are better hockey players than Scott.

Regardless, the guy is a Hawk so I will reserve further judgment until he plays, but as of now this signing doesn't look very useful. I admit, he looks like he might have a better skill set than someone like Koci, and might be one of the better skating enforcers in the league, but I still don't see the need for it.
