Beach, Bickell, Dowell, Lalonde, Brouwer, Seabrook, all have no problem throwing them.

I'd say of those names, I wouldn't care if Bickell or Dowell went to the box.

Scott serves no purpose, we have just as much toughness as last year assuming Dowell, Beach, and Bickell make the team -- all of which are better hockey players than Scott.

Regardless, the guy is a Hawk so I will reserve further judgment until he plays, but as of now this signing doesn't look very useful. I admit, he looks like he might have a better skill set than someone like Koci, and might be one of the better skating enforcers in the league, but I still don't see the need for it.
For the ultimate goal of the Hawks next year (to repeat) in the end there is no need for it... all you have to do is make the playoffs, Scott gets scratched every game etc.

But as RK broke down earlier in the thread now that Ivanans signed with the Flames we have 10 game to worry about where Scott's services will be needed... I went through the schedule and want to add a few more:

6 St. Louis (Obvious)

4 Calgary

4 Stars (Ott)

2 Rangers (Boogaard/Avery - I know you guys would love to see Avery's face pounded, lol)

1 Islanders (Konopka)

1 Maple Leafs (Orr/Phaneauf)

That's 18 games where I'd like to have Scott out there in case anything goes south, it's not going to hurt anything.

For 18 games we are spending 512K? Sounds like a waste of cap space to me. Wouldn't matter if we weren't desperate for it, but considering we ARE desperate for cap space 512K is a LOT to just throw on a guy who is barely going to play.

I'm not worried about any of those teams, Dowell/Bickell will be out there anyway and both can throw them, especially DOWELL who is a better fighter than Eager.

Again, maybe he is being short changed by plenty of fans and will be able to play the odd shift for our 4th line every night, but chances are, he can't... we'll find out in a few months.

Says the guy who hasn't seen him play in a Hawks uniform. At least Ton at least gives the guy a chance... we need GDTs to argue in if people are actually bitching about something this minor.

Where the **** did all this "enforcer" shit come from? I'm sorry but I don't ever recall hearing Scott's name when going down the list of NHL goons the past 3 years. Can we please stop with all this fighing bullshit!? (I'm looking at you Grimson.) He's a 6 or 7 D who happens to fight. Just because he can pummel the shit outta someone due to his size, doesn't hake him a goon. In the three years Scott has played in the NHL he's logged a whopping 11 fights. Hardly goon-esque considering Parros had 20 last year alone. Boll had 21. Those are goons.

INTERNETS - YA NEVER KNOW WITHOUT PURPLE! The way its discussed in here makes 512K sound like the end of the world.

I don't think Stan would be dumb enough to "waste" 512K if he thought it would hinder the signings of Niemi/Hammer.

In a cap world this tight, including Kane and Toews bonuses making it even more tight, 500k is a decent amount of money.

Obviously no ones making less, IMO we could have gone for young talent to fil in when needed. Its not like he has much valuable experience.

No, not yet.

I'm sure you or RK has one more nugget about Scott.

It's already 11 pages for a 500K D man.

Just wait until we sign Modano.

I wouldn't mind signing Modano. Trying to win the Cup one last time. In fact I think that type of Vet is just what the Hawks will look to filling certain roles/holes in the roster now.
