I'll add that everything happens for a reason, so dig deep and go find something else to do, possibly something you would enjoy!

I'm 37 and am starting school again next week because of my voluntary career change a few years back. Luckily I've been able to try a few odd jobs until I finally landed a job with benefits, which is great for my family and all. However that's not enough for me, my current job is not "fulfilling" whatsoever so I've decided to try my luck with some schooling.

I have contemplated that myself but I actually enjoy my job there is a feeling of accomplishment when I do my part of building someone's home and they are happy with it. or I see a building I worked on being used by people in my community I dunno what it is but it makes me happy

That's pretty important, I used to love drilling wells in the oilfield, it's the most challenging thing I've ever done and likely will ever do. I always felt a sense of accomplishment or a "job well done" type of feeling at the end of the projects. I think that's an important part of being a happy and productive person.

PS - how's your back doing?

Ole, good luck finding a new gig, you know you will. Hold out for something that isn't as miserable as where you were, you deserve it. Are you going to be working for Ares now?

Worst day of my life. July 2013, on my birthday.

Before I began running a service department at my current Volkswagen dealership, I worked for a dealership running the internet sales department. It was customary for my to facilitate long-distance deals by doing all the finance paperwork, trade appraisals, credit applications, etc. I was working with an individual in Texas who was buying an F-450 we had on the lot. The purchase was for his business, and he was trying to meet a specific tax deadline in order to have the interest on the vehicle waived. I prepared all the paperwork and brought it to the dealership owner, as it's customary for him to FedEx everything to customers. Keeping it brief -- the owner mixed up some of the paperwork and sent to the wrong person. The customer missed his deadline and rightfully wanted the dealership to reimburse him for the discrepancy in taxes.

I had the next day off and came in July 2nd, my birthday. I couldn't even get to my desk, he called me into his office with our general manager, stated "my poor planning"... whatever that means, caused him to mix up the paperwork and I was at fault. He tried forcing me to reimburse the customer, then changed his mind and fired me.

I'm not one to hold grudges, but I've seen their financial statements get floated around between dealer principals and that specific dealership group hasn't had a green month in almost 9 months.

Wow, he totally threw you under the bus. What a ****.

I was 14 and they found out that I lied about my age and said I was 16. This was after being promoted into management and having a background check. So obviously no kids or wife, but I was paying the rent.

Yeah, i hurt my back a little back just moving to quick. The boxes were 75 lbs so I should've been more focused on proper form. I was scared. I never went to see a dr because I still don't have health insurance and I didn't want to be put on light duty at work. I just relaxed. After about a week I fel much better. Think I just pulled a muscle, but I was pretty scared for a minute cuz I thought something popped.

I got fired from a bank because I am a bad salesman. However they didnt fire me for that. They just waited for me to make a mistake, then fired me for that mistake, despite the fact everyone makes little mistakes like that from time to time.
Ever been fired from a Mod job before?

I work in healthcare. A private professional group sold their business to a larger, hospital based management corporation. I was a moonlighter for this group, not my main gig, the new larger company decided to downsize the group a year later and let me and all the other part-time employees go. Bastards sent me a letter in the mail, went to the human resources people and they said oops we wanted to tell you in person, sorry. A year later they closed it down completely. Really think they were just trying to eliminate competition. Don't miss it at all. I found a new moon lighting gig as soon as I was ready.

If so,

were you married?

And/or

did you have kids?

Thoughts?

try it out

That sucks man. Do you have any job leads yet? Good luck

I've been fired from one job and it was two years ago. I deserved it though, I had a terrible attitude because I was absolutely done with working on cars for a living. I had already started looking for another job in a little different field but my boss (who I'm still friends with) beat me to the punch.

I have also walked out on two places. Both times felt great and I hoped I ruined some plans when I did.

The last place I walked out on is taking a nose dive and it's fucking hilarious. I was the mechanic at a high end German car body shop. One of the body guys was really good friends with the shop manager and general manager and was always trying to sabotage people who weren't in lock step with them. I found a different job just packed my shit up which isn't anything spectacular but I was talking to another guy that hated the place a few months after that and my replacement was destroying everything he worked on. In about two months he destroyed several axle shafts ( close to $500 a piece), sent a bunch of shit to the regular service department that he definitely should have been able to fix, & (best of all) dropped a brand new BMW 3 series off of a lift. He had taken everything, literally, off the front of the car so it could have a frame rail replaced and didn't have it positioned properly. Instead of double and triple checking everything when the engine/transmission/front suspension was removed on a huge table-lift he just hammered the bolts out with an impact gun and it went tumbling backwards.

I laughed for a week when I heard that. I'm chuckling about it now, actually

Once. On my way out I turned over 3 work stations and knocked the window out of my service van. Told the owner if he called the cops I would always be in the shadows waiting for him. Started my own business 3 mo later. That was 1990 and I'm still in business. Getting fired can open doors.

I appreciate the well wishes, but I haven't been fired yet (from this job) but it's on the menu.

I got an email at 5 this morning basically telling me I fucked up something I didn't even work on, but I was able to plead my case and while I was up, thought it would make a good thread topic (lol).

Anyway, great stories, keep them coming

My first full time job after high school was at a body shop. I just did random things like detail cars, run errands, occasional deliveries. Then one morning I walk in and get fired because I'm not middle aged white trash that smoke 2 packs of cigarettes a day, that married an obese secretary, that drves home in my shitty car every evening after working thinking about where I went wrong.

Well, actually I got fired for not working very hard and calling in sick a lot.

And soon I will be that guy, Lord willing.

When I was learning to run/manage an eBay store for my dad's ex boss I had to constantly put up with the business owner's personal questions while I was at my computer trying to get my work done. One day I just fucking snapped and told her son, which was my boss, "handle your mom, I'm here to work not chit chat about my personal life." Well, that didn't go over well. Her, her husband and their son told basically told me "apologize and get back to work or there is the door" I said "I am not here for unsolicited advice" punched out and left. Rich Jews. They give approximately zero fucks about how they treat people.
