I think some people are so particular - or just attention whores - they do it often. I have friends who seem to always have issues with their food. I think they need to show they are too "special" to just accept what they are given.

But there are likely some legit times to send something back. I have only done it twice that i can recall. Once was very recently at a bar n grill - the steak was not close to done as much as I like (and I am very flexible when it comes to that) so i simply asked to have it cooked longer. One other time I got what was basically a raw burger (also at a bar), and after sending back, the owner (who is an ass) seemed to want me to feel like an ass for their mistake.

I honestly don't believe I have ever sent food back in an actual restaurant.

As I said, my friends have done so several times just this year. (they also never seem to like anywhere recommended to them - I told them I am through doing so because they only like a place they find on their own.)

It's okay to send back something under cooked, that shouldn't piss off the kitchen staff, they just get it on the grill for a bit. When someone gets super picky and is just being a pain in the ass because they can, they will get spit, at best.

Hell Yeah , i see a penny on the ground i pick it up.

Same here, Lou. Every penny counts. I can’t imagine what sort of prick would pass up FREE money. More for me I guess.
The penny is absolutely stupid....literally costs more to make it than it is worth. The US literally loses money minting the penny

Yeah but if you save up enough of them you can buy yourself something real swell.
I wouldn't call that a bad tip. It's not great, but anywhere between 10%-20% is pretty much the norm.

Cheapskate. I would hate to be your waiter.

I remember a guy in college who boasted during a class discussion that he'll put a stack of singles on the table, and will (what seemed by his explaining this) big production of taking one dollar away if the waiter did something he deemed unworthy. I remember a lot of the following reactions:

I would approach the table and invite them to leave.

Begs the question, in your job, how do you handle diners who are shitty to your wait staff?

It's tough. If someone really had a pile of money out and the server picked up on what they were doing I would approach the table and ask them to explain their thoughts. 9/10 you just gotta let people explain/vent/*****. Whatever the answer would be, I would then tell them it's comes across rude and adds another layer of stress my staff and I don't need. If the person argued with me or said it was his right, I would follow it up with "Well, it's my right to not serve you. Please leave." 99/100 times this shuts them down. If they persisted I would remind them I don't have to serve them as long as I'm not doing it based off of race, sexual orientation, religion, etc. Bascially, we're a private business open to the public and we can choose who we serve to as long as it's not based on any of the above. I would be quick and to the point.

I've asked dozens of people to leave for a multitude of reasons and nearly all involve people drinking. "I remember my first beer" always comes to mind. I tell my managers and our staff "We are ladies and gentleman taking care of ladies and gentleman." As soon as they cross a line, be it volume, curse words or otherwise behavior detrimental to my staff and the surrounding guests, we get serious. We love confrontation and are known as a place that doesn't put up with any bullshit. The local police love us.

When it comes to guests leaving a bad tip, it happens. Servers still have to tipout and I simply remind them this is a part of the business. Don't focus on what you make night-night, focus on your weekly/monthly haul. It all evens out.

The only really bad tip I've given is this one time I told a guy that money isn't everything in life.

He is now drug addicted and homeless.

Seriously, guys. Money is literally everything. You can't possibly be happy without it.

I like the ones that get put in their place. Shut up then yelp about it and make up a totally different story then what happened. Im sorry you and your table ate 99.9% of your food and now want it taken off the bill because you didnt think it was hot enough while you sat there for 20 minutes snapping pictures of your food.

I am all for comping if valid, but when it comes douchebaggery. Ill take the yelp hit.
