I wouldn't call that a bad tip. It's not great, but anywhere between 10%-20% is pretty much the norm.

My minimum is usually $5 - I'm not very needy so most service is passable to me. It takes really awful service.

Such as taking my food to another table, me sitting there watching those people touch my food, then trying to bring that food to me, then when i reject it, you take it back and bring it back 5 minutes later....like wtf?

They did end up remaking my food after i rejected it the 2nd time - but i should have left.

heavily salt your food before they take it so you know if you got a new dish

Gosh. I almost punched myself in the forehead imagining myself being so passive.

If someone tries to give me food they have given to another table, I'm going to be having a loud conversation with the manager or owner, nothing less. Absolutley unacceptable behavior. this isnt even a discussion about tipping lol

For serious.

That loud conversation may have even started with the strangers "putting their hands" all over the wrong food.

You already know it's not your food, but instead of ending this quick...you start treating my Porterhouse like crime scene evidence instead of letting a man at his meat.

I want a new steak...comped dinner and drinks...and that poor excuse for a public diner that had the nerve to pretend that **** did not happen literally thrown out on his ***.

And I am still gonna blast you on Yelp!

In my 28 years of existence, I can't recall one time when I watched a server give my food to another table, have them touch it, then try and give it to me. Lmao wtf

I wouldn't say i was that passive. I didn't scream and yell but i was pretty blunt that i wasn't accepting that food. I spoke with the owner aswell who gave me a huge discount.

Probably could have got it for free if i pressed it, but he came over to me to apologize and said he'd take some off the bill (it was over half). So maybe i was passive there.

Technically the guy who brought the food wasn't even my waiter (a girl who was also pretty crappy was) but this was the most unbelievable thing to happen to me in a restaurant.

I once was out of town for work, and went to dinner with a co-worker. We went to a Chinese restaurant, in which there were only two other people.

They brought our food, I took two bites of mine, and then needed to use the restroom. When I returned, my silverware was wrapped in a napkin. I stared at it for a minute, before my friend burst out laughing. They had inadvertently brought me a meal intended for the only other customers they had, and not recognizing the difference, i started in. :)

The other people had to wait, and the cook and waitress were screaming at each other in the kitchen.

I had no idea I had the wrong food, but it gave us a good laugh. The other couple didn't feel the same way.

You should have burnt the place to the ground

I have coffee tins full of pennies, and I can't even get the dumpster diver dudes to take them. We abolished them a few years ago. The pennies, not the dumpster diver dudes.

Why? They don't have change counter machines in Canada?

You didn't read my entire post. Pennies are no longer currency here. You could take them to a bank, but change machines won't accept them.

I think people that send things back to the kitchen have never worked at a restaurant.

I think people that send things back to the kitchen have never worked at a restaurant.

I think some people are so particular - or just attention whores - they do it often. I have friends who seem to always have issues with their food. I think they need to show they are too "special" to just accept what they are given.

But there are likely some legit times to send something back. I have only done it twice that i can recall. Once was very recently at a bar n grill - the steak was not close to done as much as I like (and I am very flexible when it comes to that) so i simply asked to have it cooked longer. One other time I got what was basically a raw burger (also at a bar), and after sending back, the owner (who is an ass) seemed to want me to feel like an ass for their mistake.

I honestly don't believe I have ever sent food back in an actual restaurant.

As I said, my friends have done so several times just this year. (they also never seem to like anywhere recommended to them - I told them I am through doing so because they only like a place they find on their own.)
