Re: Offseason Transactions

So what do everyone think will happen during the Hawks offseason? Will they get fair value for their players or are they getting it up the butt? Will they lose players that have previously not been part of the discussion (Hammer, Niemi, Hossa or even someone of the core)??

I am thinking the majority of the deals will go down just before or at the draft. I've followed the discussion on the various forums and the Hawks are in a right mess for sure.

Hello Atlanta HC job?

Andy Strickland reports:

All signs point towards Atlanta hiring John Torchetti as Head Coach...close friend of his tells me deal is all but signed

Anyone see the Blackhawks PP% going up next year?

Wow, I have a hard time believing that is true. You got to think the Hawks would at least want a prospect thrown in. And I'm sure there is a much better way to dump Sopel's contract. I bet Rozner picks up this story tomorrow.

No such column in today's Herald. However, Rozner did pen an article in the editorial section blaming BP's deep well cap problem on Dale Tallon.

You would think....I assume it primarily depends on how much interest is shown around the league for players bowman wants to deal. Chicago's position is obvious, we need to dump salary. We know it GM's know it, and I don't think for a minute if the landscape is advantageous, another GM would use our unfortunate situation to fleece us.

Re: Offseason Transactions

you get a cookie if you can guess whos bright idea from the o-board this is

The 2 best solutions will of course NEVER be allowed by MCD's marketing dept...I mean eITHER:

KANE for EDM's #1 ...MOST of Taylor Hall's cap hit willbe bonuses which could also be siphoned off to 2011 via the 7.5 % bonus cushion..

OR

KANE to BUFFALO for Tyler Myers and the #13...

Would save us huge $$$ on the cap for 2 more tears! Again any of Myers' bonuses over the cap limit could be cushioned to the 7.5% overage..

HOWEVER-as I said --our marketing dept. would NIX such deals even if they so alleviated the cap and continuing depth problems.

A factor to consider is that both Kane and Toews MUST elevate their production numbers to justify the differential of their NEw contracts over their actual cap hit from last season...This "elevation" in production MUST occur--because the loss of the cap casulaties will hurt our depth-therefire TEAM Goals FOR -will likely DECREASE unless we get elevation in prodiction from T+K and /or others to "make up for the inevitable decline in offense as our depth simply cannot compensate like it did this past season for the fact neither Toews nor Kane 's numbers fully justified a $6.3 million production expectation level ..WHAT should one expect from a $6.3 million player these days? 90-100+pts I would think...

Of course the Hawks are hoping that as they mature into their later 20's --that T+K can "elevate" their production to justify the big raise they each got..The pressure to justify the raises will be an added burden on them. HOPEFULLY those elevtions cn be achieved else the opportunity cost of trading one of them to save cap and make it up via greater depth contributions again will be in question.

Of course Kane had 88 reg .season pts so he's not far off adding say another 10 pts...Toews "intagibles" may partially justify the contract amount should he not be able t elevate to that level of scoring -but the nottom line is that with depth cuts due to cap, elevation od scoring WILL be expected from him.

Nevertheless--the summer" AIR-ONDITIONED LEAGUE" has plenty of WHAT IF discussion points in dissecting the meruts of trading KANE or not as another option in solving the cap mess.. (OF course what if EDM refused HALL for KANE? Probably a better chance for the Buffalo deal given the local Buffalo boy "prize" Kane would be for them).

Als such fatasy deals will NOT HAPPEN..MCD's marketing dept. would commit hara-kiri if STAn did this...so the cap casulaties not considered"core" WILL be shipped out to "fit" the situation.

John Jaeckel wrote that San Jose is planning on throwing big offers at both Niemi and Hammer.

I'd like to know, what picks SJ would have to sign 2 RFA's to offer sheets? If it's over 3.1mil - they'd need a 1st and a 3rd - for each of those guys. And from what I understand, they have to be their own picks, not ones that they trade for?

Re: Offseason Transactions

I think if (more like when) ...the Hawks lose Versteeg, Byfuglien (I'm hoping more to lose Buff than Sharp)....they'll look to get the "aging" vet on a discount.

Maybe a guy like Modano (who can play center or wing) for a 1yr - 1mil ...

Nope, as long as you have the picks, you can make the deal and from what I understand Brian Burke was trying to acquire picks in order to prepare for another offer sheet last season. Could be wrong though.

Burke was acquiring his own (toronto) pick back that was making the rounds. You need your own picks. If you can re-aquire your own picks, as Burke did, then it's okay.
