I'd prefer to roll that $ over to use on re-signing one of Mooney or Claypool, plus grabbing and EDGE. Also seems like they might need another CB and probably another S next year.

Hopkins is good but he's not imo a great fit with Fields (not a separator and slight decline in athleticism recently) or with this roster, esp at his price point.
you also have to look at extending Fields early if he has a great season.

He had those yards in 9 games because the Cards sucked and his target share was ridiculous. He needed 10 targets a game to get those numbers and he is unlikely to get 10 targets a game with the Bears because there is more competition and he isn't the type of WR Fields typically likes. In this offense with the WRs we have he would basically be the checkdown/safe option which for Fields is typically the last read in his progression. So you would be signing a guy to good money to get like 5-7 targets a game if that and his production will be much less as a result.

Basically it would be like arguing to sign Allen Robinson when we already saw that Fields doesn't like an Allen Robinson type of WR. Sign Hopkins and you likely looking at him complaining when he is getting 3 receptions of 5 targets for 33 yards. So unless Fields turns into a checkdown/short game specialist, it isn't worth it IMO.

Houston's No 1 WR is Robert Woods. So he is likely to get a fuck ton of targets there which is part of the reason he is still considering them. At this stage, I suspect Hopkins is after Super Bowls, money, and stat padding in some order.
Hopkins was 70th(?) in DVOA at WR which measures a player’s efficiency and expected production based on targets/catches. He usually ranked in the top 20(like 2021 which was injury plagued).

I'm not going to reply to the first bolded section because I think you had a stroke there. Are you OK?

And you must have me confused with someone else if you think I hate Claypool.
Old man typing on a laptop while watch F1 without glasses, LOL.
Here's something interesting:

If he's not getting all star WR money and not demanding a premium to play here, I'm good. I just didn't see the value in him as a $20m dollar WR on this current team.

It's one of the best WR's in the NFL, he fits with any QB.
He was one of the best three years ago.

If you're going to spend a bunch of $ on a WR it should be on one who is does what your QB likes, separate and get deep.

LOL. Yeah, I’m sure JF would hate a HOF receiver.

Hopkins can separate without a doubt, has probably the best hands in the league and can go up and get it and is still one of the best in the league. If Fields can't learn how to do everything else you need a QB to do then he won't be here anyway.

Yeah man, before I met my wife I was sleeping with multiple women in a week, hell, even a 24 hour period. Ironically I wasn't doing it to be cool, I was doing it because I was looking for validation from the wrong places and for the wrong reasons. Aint nobody perfect or else we wouldn't be on this rock in the first place. She pours herself into her music- good, bad, pain, pleasure- I can respect that.

He has good hands, he doesn't separate well at all. Look at that vid that Baba posted. Literally 4 receptions against m2m in his 2022 highlight reel, two against LB and two back shoulder catches.

Good thing that I didn't write he would hate that. I'm sure he'd want HOFers at every position like any QB or fan would. At least ones who still play like Hall of Famers, which isn't Hopkins.

It's not Poles' job to get all the players that the QB would like to play with though.

So you would be happy with a reduced WR room understanding that there will likely be injuries? Is 865 yards worth anything?
DJ.Moore, D.Hopkins, D.Mooney is not a reduced WR room over DJ Moore, C.Claypool, D.Mooney.

Plus we get another 3rd round pick. Yes please

I wouldn't go off of one highlight reel to determine if D.Hopkins can separate well. He can.

It's his whole highlight reel from all of last year. That means the good plays.

He's never been known as someone who creates a lot of separation.

Hey dabears70, can you stop talking about hopkins?

There is zero reason why he would want to come here.
Not only this but does he actually Poles is thinking about bringing in Hopkins? No. Makes no sense to bring in an aging and declining wr for a one year rental. Especially at the price he will demand. I think Poles is 100% satisfied with Moore, Mooney and Claypool for 2023.

Yeah i understood what you were saying but i'm thinking it doesn't show all of his routes he ran to see if he got separation and he only played in i think 9 games last year. I mean i don't really think it's much i want to get in some big debate about anyway because the fact will still stand that he's had a HOF career up to this point and is still a very good WR with some top talents in the league. I'll still take him over Claypool but i also agree with you that we might be a year too early to pay for a 30 year old Hopkins but also think he could be a huge help for JF and this offense. I'd sign him to a 3 year deal for the right money and with 2 of the years of the contract in guaranteed money.
