Both of them played well in this scheme before injury.

The fuck?

And I would not have drafted either one in 2nd based on their careers to date. They were role players and as I said if someone feels like a future star was available then that is their right. The truth will be determined on the field.

Burton's 54 rec and less than 600 yrds is pretty meh. He wasn't even top 12 at his position in 2018. If that's what they're aiming for from Kmet, it's a pretty low bar. Same with Gabriel. He had a couple games where he would absolutely blow up, but most of the time he was a ghost. His speed certainly plays a vital role though and it needs to be replaced.

We didn't draft either.

We signed them in FA.

Usually there is much less talent in FA than the draft.

That is not similar at all.

And the fact they were productive for a year until they got hurt kinda proves nagy knows what fits his scheme more than you or I do.

If Nagy/Pace believe Kmet is the answer at Y, and by far the best answer in the draft, I trust them.

We didnt have a single TE break 100 yards.

In an offense that everything starts through the tight end.

Burton was expected to contribute but I'm fairly confident they expected shaheen to take the next step and he never did.

No it doesnt. Anyone can have one good year. Proves nothing.

Yes you trust them which is fine. The issue is if others dont that is also fine.

Let me ask a simple question.

If I believe Mims can be a 1,000 yard WR and Jones could lock down LT for 10 years, hoe should I feel about Kmet if he is Kyle Rudolph.

Like I dont get why this is so hard for people to understand. How you feel about the draft is entirely based on how you view the players. None of us know the truth right now so let people like it if they like it and let people hate it if they hate.

In the end the truth will be decided on the field.

I want to be excited about Kmet but it’s tough because odds are he will be a disappointment. The best predicator for the future is the past and the past tells us that pace selects busts with most offensive players and especially anyone outside of the oline!

I like the kid but just disappointed in the offense as a whole.

I hope they will turn it around but the odds are they won’t improve much at all if they even do improve. The bears are very weak at all the skill positions On offense.

qb- blah at best
RB- ok But not scary
Wr- average but no explosive players
TE- bad but should be improved but worrisome

I don't hate Kmet, but he has to pan out as a Kittle/Kelce/Ertz to make it work. This looks to me like a luxury pick when there are glaring needs, and there were players available to address those needs. Specifically Delpit and Winfield. I also think Kmet probably still would've been available at 50, based on the teams that drafted after the Bears. I don't really hate it, but it feels so Bears.
Its not fair to put the bar of success for a second round pick on the three best tight ends in football. This guy isn't an elite TE prospect. That doesn't mean he can't be really good

Even though this guy was the first TE taken, he's not that level of TE prospect and there wasn't any of them who were in this draft

Also for fans wanting another WR I get it but let's take a look at the best offenses in football and they all at some level feature a TE

Clearly in terms of positional value teams right now value the TE position a lot more than fans do

You never know if a team like GB or NE would trade back up to take him.

NE had 50 picks to work with and took a TE with two of them.

Doubt it. Regardless, the TE position is valued far too high by Nagy. I know his offense is supposed to run through it and I understand why he places that value there, but Kmet has to absolutely dominate at a Kelce/Kittle level for it to work. TEs usually take a year to develop as well, even the elite ones, so it likely doesn't help the Bears this year. I don't hate the player, but like I said earlier, it feels more like a luxury pick as opposed to need. I'm already seeing the same Gronk 2.0 comparisons I saw with Shaheen on the Bears FB page LOL.

They should've taken Delpit and paired him with Jackson and re-evaluated at 50 to see if they still wanted Johnson to make a ridiculously elite defense, or draft Cleveland and give the QB their banking their jobs on some protection. For some reason, the Bears continue to refuse to address the needs at OL, and it's been going on for about 15 years now. Then the fans wonder why they can't get competent QB play.

Well, obviously you overvalued both(And so did I) because of the fact every team passed on both players twice.

The ideal pick there was OL, but there just wasn't one valued at 43. They coulda traded down, I guess.

That is exactly my point. He doesn't grade out to be up there, so the pick doesn't make sense when there are players that could make an impact this year at higher positions of need.

Or GMs got it wrong like they have with countless players. Until we find out truth you are free believe what you want and others are free to believe otherwise.

Not everyone is going to believe the same thing.

P.S. That was an example, not saying it will happen.

Yet everyone was crying the bears should have taken him....

Not sure how he doesn't grade out to be there. What makes you think he can't be a good Y TE in this scheme?

All GM's don't usually get it wrong in unison.

Players are great later in the draft, they arent usually graded as first rounders and drop over a round.

There is usually a reason for that. Neither you or I know the reason. Either way, Mims and Jones were never options at 43, and it seemed like they wouldn't have been options no matter who was picking at 43....

So if he comps to Rudolph and a WR or OL picked later becomes a pro bowler, you saying you good?

Some of you are so silly. It is fine if you like Kmet but it is not being dumb if you think there were guys available who could be much better than Kyle Rudolph at their positions.

In the end it will be decided on the field.

Nah.

Some of us aren't jaded or dissatisfied regardless of what was done/who was picked. He may be good. He may be bust. He may be in-between. He may be Kyle Rudolph who was also taken #43 overall, coincidentally (and let's be honest, if he put up Rudolph numbers you'd all be demanding Gronk numbers).

But you clowns writing him off before he's played a snap, because you're under some delusional impression that:

Ryan Pace can't get the TE position right/Adam Shaheen was a bust and also taken in the 2nd so Cole Kmet will be too/But Trey Burton didn't pan out/We overpayed for Jimmy Graham/We already have 9 TEs on the roster

Bears fans crack me up. They got better at tight end, a position they desperately needed to--and you're bitching.

What was the TE room like before drafting Kmet?

No, they should've taken Delpit at 43 and re-evaluated at 50. I would've been fine with taking two DBs since they play different positions, both of which are a need, and combined that with this front seven. The defense would be ridiculous. While I'd prefer more offensive help, based on how the draft fell, I don't think the value was there, so you might as well make the defense unstoppable. I would think that pairing Delpit with Jackson in the middle would've been more than adequate though, and wouldn't have minded drafting Ezra Cleveland at 50. TE in itself is a luxury pick in today's NFL.

No you really don't have one. The receivers left there were all fringe 1st to mid 2nd guys just like kmet. You can't put the bar for of success for either as the top 3 at their position

They weren't first round picks either. All the best offenses in football right now feature a good tight end so in terms of higher positions of need its clearly higher than any of us realize
