How close are the Bears to being competitive?

Real OC's tend to become Real HC's....
No, that has not always been the case. Some real OCs are just that and only that, real OCs. When they attempt to become real HCs, some of them shit the bed.

Ask the Lions' fans and their perfect season about that.

Light years away, they will never be competitive unless they sell the team.

  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Illinois Fighting Illini
Yeah he has been a huge disappointment but his contract guarantees him another year
Then hopefully the Bears will move him another LB position because he is not physical nor in the right places to make the tackle.

Edmunds value is in coverage. Despite poor PFF grades he is 6th in passer rating against. His cap hit goes down to 17m each of the next 2 years so not ridiculous expensive and will be 27 and 28 in 2025 and 2026. So could see them sticking with him.

The Bears might finish this year 6-11....and you're pulling up PFF coverage grades for Tremaine Edmunds. Good stuff.

No tear down is needed, unless they go to a 3-4, which still won’t be a full tear down but instead a retooling. The offensive line will need an overhaul and they still need another stud on the DL. SS will have to be addressed as Brisker should retire but they can get a competent vet for cheap. WR depth will have to be addressed as Scott/Carter are turds and Allen is moving on.

It would be shame to let Allen go, but it was stupid move to trade a 4th for an aging receiver on the last year of his contract.

I have always said next year was when “the window” opens and they wouldn’t truly be competitive until then.

I still feel that way. Build the lines some more this offseason. Get a new HC. CW keeps improving.

It’s not a given. They still have to make the right moves. But nothing that I’ve seen so far has dissuaded me from thinking good times are a year away.

Am I wrong?

(For the purpose of this discussion I will define competitive as a team that can make the playoffs and have a shot at winning a game)

If I am wrong how far away are the Bears? Total tear down stage? Two years?
The turmoil of firing Walrdon and maybe Flus doesn't help. But yes, I didn't think we'd be competitive until end of next year. I expected us to replace/upgrade 2-3 OL positions. and we still need to do that. The new OC seems to know what he's doing.

True, but if you are an OC somewhere, why transfer over to just be an OC somewhere else? You realize, if the OC is good an Organization can block any such move. The move they can not block is a Coordinator to Head Coach.

Resign Shelton who has been pretty good after the initial disaster. Also resign Pryor and Murray for cheap.

Get Trey Smith and Corbett KC for LG and RG.

Draft top Edge like Pierce in first round. Get an OT and G/C in 2nd round.

So OL going into TC would be.

OT- Braxton/Kiran/Wright/Rookie
G/C - Smith, Corbett, Shelton, Bates, Pryor, Murray, Rookie, Kramer.

Would be a nice plan.

Except the Bears with do only the first sentence and say that they like their depth lol

Nah I think Poles absolutely knows the OL needs to be fixed this offseason and wont have many other needs to take his eye off of it.
