Ima have to run to Jewel omw home from work and pickup more firewood.... I can't get my living room above 60 degrees in this weather without burning a hot fire in the fireplace.

Idk that there is an easy way to improve my living room temps without moving lol

For my living room, just 2 vents coming out of the loft space floor above the edge of the living room.... living room has high vaulted ceiling, so what heat does make it from the furnace to my living room just rises up and away.... If I run space heater and fireplace I can get the ground level where I sit in the living room to like 65-70 degrees.

Other than putting up some kind of insulated tarp over the top of the living room around where the loft ends, idk how you can easily keep heat in an area with such high ceiling.

It sounds like you need to replace your furnace. Whoever installed it went with too small of unit. Spend the money for a Pro to take a look and give you an estimate. Many guys will do that for free. Post the estimates and I'll have my buddy that installs furnaces look it over. He installed my new furnace and ac unit this fall. My total bill was $5050. Good luck.

Nah I bought new furnace and new AC when I bought the house 3 years ago.

My Dad's friend does HVAC, got me the units and did the install with my Dad.

The furnace is fine..... problem is the airflow thru the vents coming out the loft is terrible (it is fine for all the other vents).... and even the hot air it gets out those vents is going into an area with 20+ feet to rise into.... honestly even if every vent in the house was pumping heat into my living room area, idk how it could stay down in my living room, it has tons of space to escape.

Does the room have a ceiling fan?

No... it is a vaulted ceiling.... it goes up like 20-30 feet above my head in the living room area.

Here is a pic of a similar townhouse in my area:

ISe4wfxftyid5k0000000000.jpg

My setup is with the couch against the stairs with the TV mounted above the fireplace.

Now you can see vents pushing air out into the living room area, but my vents are coming out the bottom edge of that loft floor.

What you can't see is that the ceiling goes up another probably 8-10 feet above the living room space.

And there are no other vents on the wall to the right of the picture, and none on the wall behind the person taking the picture.... the next vent is over in the dinette area coming out of the ceiling, or at least it is in my house.

This setup is gr8 for summer, cold air pumped out of those vents and sinks down into the room.... but during the winter all the hot air rises up into the loft space or way up into the vaulted ceiling.

Ares, you live in Chicago I presume. Find yourself a nice fat Polish girl to snuggle up to for the winter. Dump her in the spring.

A quote from a news article today.

Good news, freezing Iowans! We'll emerge from the deep freeze today, with temperatures expected to reach all the way up to the 20's across central Iowa.

Nothing like a balmy 20 degrees!

There are restaurants around here that also have patios. Of course the patios are closed in the winter because only a Special person would want to eat a meal in a blizzard.

We have custom made circus like tents with natural gas heaters inside. It's a pretty tight setup, it's just the wait station can't have a tent. I hate winter.

You should put a firepit in the middle of your living room...it will provide the heat you need while also giving off a great atmosphere your guests will love
