Chi PD, Fire and Med are doing a 3 hr crossover tonight. Going to record it on my DVR time machine.

I made a Chicago Fire thread in the Chicago Fire forum if you'd like to discuss the crossover event.

Becoming my favorite show. This season has been fantastic.

if you enjoy it, I recommend the "Insiders Podcast" that Vince Gilligan does. Releases every Tuesday.

David Cross needs someone to buffer his style or flamboyance or whatever. Did you watch the show he did, where he was in England? Forget what it was called. It was ok, then got pretty cringey.

I've heard Marc Maron tell stories about how in his early standup days, Cross used to be all dark and depressed and would unload on the audience and walk the room all the time. I bet that was good shit.

To be fair, i don’t trust marc maron’s opinions. Isn’t that the point of his interviews, to let people speak for themselves, including gallagher?

Also, maron is a dick in person as expected #humblebrag

Yeah, I don't think he trusts his opinions either, at least from back in the day. But dude was there when those guys were coming up.

Did you see Maron after a show?

I started watching Castle Rock. It's ok, acting is fine, plot is ok. But holy shit, some of the dialog is so bad. Every few minutes there are a few lines that are so stupid and awkward. Breaks you right out of the thing.

Thing about Stephen King, is that he is kind of a terrible writer. And not very original or clever with plot. But his genius is his characters. His books are 2/3rds character development. Almost rambling, almost irrelevant, almost mundane backstory with characters weaving in and out of each other's lives before the plot ever kicks in. He paints peoples lives and pulls the reader in until all the sudden King has populated a town with people you know. And it doesn't matter how dumb or silly the plot is or how ham fisted he is with themes or how robotic his dialog is. Cause by then you care about the characters.

Its why movies based on his stuff generally suck. The movies skip straight to the plot, the weakest part of King's stuff. Laying out a sprawling series was the perfect chance to finally get it right and build a town populated with people where you know their entire backstory from childhood. But nope. This show falls into the same trap as the movies.
I've never heard anyone describe King's writing this way...but damn, you are on the money.

Wife and I watched three episodes of Maniac and it seems pretty good. Haven't watched episode four yet. Probably will. Maybe not. Eh.

Maniac is fucking brilliant imo. There is a 1-2 episode lull in the middle, but overall very good. Acting, dialog, pacing, plot, themes - generally all superb.

I've been watching the Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan show from Amazon.... surprisingly good.

I mean the story thus far has not been anything ground breaking, but the show is interesting.
