The Good Place (Netflix). I was surprised how fast they move things along, and they get faster and faster each episode, not slower and slower like most shows. It's a totally new premise (to me), interesting, funny, and strangely emotional at times.

Other good series recent/all-time that should be avl:

Game of Thrones
Battle Star Galactica (2004–2009)
Firefly
The Walking Dead
Lost
Breaking Bad
The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, animated (starts slow but is really good when it gets past the origin eps)
Star Trek: original series 1966
Season 3 (starting with last ep season 2) Star Trek: Enterprise
Friends
Everybody Loves Raymond

What do you like?

Love that show.

Great writing, great characters. love the way it pops back and forth between 2 seemingly unrelated story lines that eventually tie.

Fargo was pretty good, the first 2 seasons especially.

Each season is self contained (although they loosely tie together... nothing you would miss if you watched out of order).

New cast, new story lines, not at all like fargo the movie. Really has nothing to do with it for the most part.

Billy Bob Thornton as the psycho in season one was fantastic.

I tried that Mr. Mercedes, but had to stop after a few episodes.

Castle Rock was meh, but watchable.

Tried Lodge 49, didn't make it to the third episode.

A lot of new shows seem to want to catch on to the binge TV thing, but the stories are not sustainable for that long.

That bad? I see promos for it when I watch Better Call Saul but never gave it a chance.

Superstore. It's slow for the first few episodes. But after that it gets good. New season starts Thursday on NBC.

What I watched of it wasn't terrible. It's kind of one of those quirky, nice, feel good stories. Just wasn't something I felt I wanted to give another 8 hours of my time to. The type of show though that I can see many enjoying.

This describes it well. I stuck with it

I started watching Castle Rock. It's ok, acting is fine, plot is ok. But holy shit, some of the dialog is so bad. Every few minutes there are a few lines that are so stupid and awkward. Breaks you right out of the thing.

Thing about Stephen King, is that he is kind of a terrible writer. And not very original or clever with plot. But his genius is his characters. His books are 2/3rds character development. Almost rambling, almost irrelevant, almost mundane backstory with characters weaving in and out of each other's lives before the plot ever kicks in. He paints peoples lives and pulls the reader in until all the sudden King has populated a town with people you know. And it doesn't matter how dumb or silly the plot is or how ham fisted he is with themes or how robotic his dialog is. Cause by then you care about the characters.

Its why movies based on his stuff generally suck. The movies skip straight to the plot, the weakest part of King's stuff. Laying out a sprawling series was the perfect chance to finally get it right and build a town populated with people where you know their entire backstory from childhood. But nope. This show falls into the same trap as the movies.

MEW in season 3 was fabulous.
