Jay Cutler has improved. His numbers may not look a whole lot better, but again, last 30 games = 21-9. How many of those games do we win without Cutler? A single digit number, that's for sure.
I think he's tougher, smarter, and a better leader. He's made do with ONE other playmaker around him, an offensive line that consists of 4 folding chairs and Roberto Garza, and a WR corps full of punt returners and special teamers. With how shitty of an offense he's had around him, how many different offensive systems he's had, and having to deal with Mad Martz's shit system that only excels at getting the QB killed, you'd think Cutler would have regressed. I think most of the QBs in the league would have regressed. Cutler got better.
Now that we're putting some more talent out on the field, we reunite Cutler with Marshall and Bates, and the Tice and Bates duo play to Cutler's strengths, we're going to see an offense like we haven't seen in a long time. There might be some growing pains, but I think by the end of the year, our offense and Cutler are going to be talked about as being top 5 in the league.
And I know that people will call me a homer, but it's fine. If it doesn't pan out, I'll be here to take my lumps. But I also don't expect us to jump out of the gate averaging 40 points a game. Over the course of the season, I expect this offense to just keep getting better and better. And if Alshon Jeffery plays well, and starts to become a force, defenses are doomed.
I'm just excited to see what happens this season. Here's hoping for a successful healthy season where we'll be singing our fight song so much that we go hoarse.
