Funny crap last night during the game, Dilfer said to Berman that Berman is a future hall of fame broadcaster, but when Berman retorted and thanked Dilfer he obviously didn't say that Dilfer is a hall of fame qb, but did mention he was a Superbowl winning qb that Berman was glad to be broadcasting next to...

Fact is we went to a Superbowl and almost won with Rex Grossman... I'm pretty sure almost any QB, even Tebow, can win a SuperBowl.

Berman should refuse to do those cameo booth appearances. He's frigin' awful. He is Devin Hester, legendary in one category (like him or not) and a disaster in the other.

HUH? But I thought you were comparing McMahon's 1985 and Roethlisburger's 2008 season to Cutler. If we are talking about careers, then Roethlisberger is easily better than Cutler.
LOL, you are still sleepy I see... the thread is not called Rothlisburger Vs Cutler its McMahon VS Cutler. I don't care if Rothlisburger has been a better QB for PITT I only use those stats to show that the kind of Stats McMahon put up aren't just because he played in some inferior era where offenses were all terrible and now Offenses are all supercharged.

Rothlisburger in 2008 was just a rookie putting up mediocre numbers, no way was that rookie better than 2013 Cutler. There are a couple things that have been discussed so let me simplify for you:

#1: Cutler is better than McMahon and the best QB EVER for the Bears
#2: This diffent era where QBs must be Peyton Manning and Tom Brady is False, based on multiple SB winners with weak QBs
#3: I dont think this "different era" thing is true because ever since the 1984 49ers and the WCO teams have had high powered passing offenses and winning SBs

Sorry if I was rude, but again are you even a Bear Fan? Arent you a Bronco fan, so you should HATE Cutler, my arguements are to so called BEAR fans not other teams.

'85 McMahon: 56.9%, 2,392 yards, 15 TD, 11 INT, 82.6 QBR in 11 starts
'00 Dilfer: 59.3%, 1,502 yards, 12 TD, 11 INT, 76.6 QBR in eight starts
'07 Manning: 56.1%, 3,336 yards, 23 TD, 20 INT, 73.9 QBR in 16 starts
'08 Roethlisberger 59.9%, 3301yds, 17TDs, 15 INT, 80.1 QBR 16 starts

Take 07 and 08, rules haven't changed significantly, and 5 yrs ago isn't another era. The general concept holds in football over time. Teams can win superbowl with an average QB. It's fair not to blame Cutler for Bears not winning a SB. He's at least avg, and certainly one of best Bears QBs of the last 20 yrs. OP makes a fair statement.

4 times in how many years? That's not really a general concept to hang your hat on, just my opinion. And anyways, the OP only made this thread cuz he's hot for Jay and wants everyone to know.

Come on he has a legit point here....if McMahon can win a Super Bowl with a once in a lifetime Hall of Fame defense and one of the greatest RB's of all time. Of course that correlates to the a Bears team in 2013.

These newbie's comparisons are a little far-fetched. No?

Why did we miss the playoffs last year with one of the NFL's top rated defense? Super Bowl should've been a shoe-in given Cutler's stats.

Throw in the fact that Cutler is the best QB we have ever had...I am now convinced the NFL is rigged

McMahon threw guys open and picks were a lot more plentiful when backs could ride and slam WRs all over the field until the ball was in the air. Leadin with your helmet was also allowed, or did you forget Doug Plank or the legend of broken skull cap, Singletary.

I'm optimistic about Cutler and I find this funny. JC is closer to Jeff George and Rex Grossman at this point than Favre.

Umm I see little comparison to often injured too short to see over the O-Line Rex but he still took the team to SB that the Bears should have won.
I never paid attention to Jeff George because Im a Bears fan not Falcon fan, but I do remember Jeff had a great arm and was hated by his TEAM and the media. Cutler may be similar in talent to Jeff but I think people just keep repeating the same opinions over and over until people believe them.

I HATE Brett Favre he beat my team for so many years I think I still have nightmares, but I watched him play and Cutler is similiar in scramble ability like Favre had when he was young, and being fearless with throwing the ball. Brett would throw the ball anywhere because he had a cannon and Jay tries to do the same thing. Brett obviously is the HOF player but if he had stayed with the Falcons instead of a winning organization like the Puckers, we would call Favre the same thing we call Jeff George.

Lots of Denver fans ***** about how much of a choke artist Peyton Manning is.

If we had peyton manning people would be bitching you can't win with a qb who isnt clutch in the playoffs blah blah blah.

McMahon compared more favorably to other QBs in his time than Cutler compares to Qbs now so Mac is the better of the 2.

So why aren't you comparing Cutler to McMahon?

I did compare him to Mcmahon do you want more years of McMahon.. I can give them to you, the biggest thing with McMahon is that he was always injured even though he had great games he rarely had great seasons. The Bears leaned on Walter and the defense so much that Jim didn't pass alot but when he did he was more of a mad bomber than accurate guy from what I remember as a child. 1985 was actually his best year statistically although he was on the team from 82-88.

Here are a couple other years from McMahon...

83: 12TD 13INT 2184yds and 59.3pct
87: 12TD 8INT 1639yds and 59.5pct

If you ask me which QB I LIKED better it would be McMahon who was a rebel and tough guy, but that doesnt make him a better player than Cutty. He didn't have more talent, he was always getting injured, and he threw alot of interceptions too.

True, big time. It's just more of a proof of concept, certainly not typical. Besides, there's probably only a few people on here who somehow blames it all on Cutler. Fact remains Cutler has a lot of room to improve, and I hope he does (namely, throwing the ball out of bounds when a play is shot). And as I know you already agree with, no doubt Cutler is not the only reason Bears haven't won the SB while he's been here, and we can win the SB even if Cutler didn't improve from his 2011 talent level.

Cutler has slightly more penile girth according to Adam Schefter, thus the edge is now back to Jay. I'll post with any more news guys, stay tuned!

Umm WRONG

Montana, Elway, Marino, Phil Sims, Dan Fouts, Warren Moon all played in the same era as McMahon

So the defense and running game are a hindrance for Cutler. If those were improved the Bears would be Super Bowl bound with Cutler playing similar to last year

I Loved McMahon, but he had as many bad games as great games. He is overrated because we won the SB with him. Cutler is way underrated. Compare McMahon with the other great QBs of his era like Marino, Montana, Moon, Fouts etc and we quickly see that he wasnt better than Cutty but he did have a HOF Oline and RB which allowed him to throw deep to McKinnon and Gault. Meanwhile Jay was throwing to Hester and playing behind Webb Nation.

So what? The average amount of TD's thrown was lower and the average of ints was higher. The average overall rating was also much lower so McMahon's rating of 82 in '85 would put him in the top 10 while Cutler's rating of 81 last year put him at #19 so obviously McMahon ranked higher among his peers.
