Sucks to see this team go down with such a piss poor effort in the NLCS

The whole starting rotation is just over matched. Arrieta has been carrying this rotation all season and we are finally seeing signs of him wearing down. Lester hasn't been too shabby, but he's giving up early leads and getting zero run support. Hendricks and Hammel have looked lost the better part of the 2nd half, and the Haren trade did little to change that. Hopefully the offense can shoulder the load tomorrow and get out to a nice lead early on, and the pen can just maintain the lead after Hammel (hopefully) escapes 3 IP unscathed

It's not even the fact that we are losing, it's how we're losing. This is fucking demoralizing.

That was hard to watch. Cubs shot themselves in the foot so many times. The top of the 6th and 7th were as brutal as it gets.

It may be just me, but I think they need to explore Kris Bryant in center field. I am not liking his tall frame at third base.

It isn't just the post season, but it seems as if he is not going to improve much there defensively. It would be hard or a 6'5" guy to dive one way or the other and get back up to throw someone out, and multiple times, he has had trouble getting the ball out of his glove.

If they don't re-sign Fowler, I think he would be good out there for a couple of years, and by then, if a corner outfield position opens up as he gets thicker, stick him there.

La Stella may be the better lead-off guy in the future as he is a tough out which you want, and I know Maddon really likes him. If they move either Castro or Baez, the one that stays could take over third base.

As for the "back on topic" part.

Does anyone else besides me think this series is going back to New York with Arrieta pitching in game six?

It's either a gut feeling, or maybe it's just gas. :smug2:

Bryant is made for the OF. I have said it all season. He is bad at bunts as well. It isn't his physical prowess. Its his long, lanky body. Its hard for him to get up and down on them.

At the end of the day, Montero has to block that ball. You called the pitch. You know what is coming. You have to block it.

Schwarber whiff was inevitable. He has had issues for awhile judging balls and it finally caught up.

Soler was extremely lucky but that was a terrible decision.

Yet again, it comes back to Bryant and Rizzo for me. They couldn't hit a beach ball right now. Bryant looks terrible at the plate. The Giants showed that you need hot hitters. Mets have it. The Cubs don't. DeGrom was very hittable tonight and the Cubs still did nothing. They are young and have a bright future but they were just outplayed in every facet of the game tonight and in this series. The mets have taken the extra bases and have played great D with great pitching. The Cubs have done none of it. I still hold hope cause I am a fan but they looked demoralized tonight. Maybe they pull an 04 Red Sox but all I am hoping for tom. is them to play a good game and if they get beat. They get beat. Tonights game was not a great effort

Also, I know its the playoffs but I believe Maddon should have got himself tossed. The umps have been shitty all series and teams a lot of times respond to it. He should have pulled a Lou when Denorfia got rung up. Just my opinion.

It ain't over til it's over, but the fat lady is warming up her vocal cords. Who knows? Maybe they can pull a Boston.

I wasn't kidding about going to game six with Arrieta. That all hinges on tonights game, and maybe they catch the Mets a little flat and the Cubs can go pitcher-by-committee to steal a win.

Do that, and then you have Lester going on Thursday at home, and maybe you can start putting a little more pressure on the Mets, and give the Cubs a little inspiration.

As bad as the bats have been, you just never know when they are going to wake up in a big way, and I can think of no better time than the present.

I don't think they'll do it, just because the chances are slim, but it wouldn't surprise me if they did. This team had shown the ability to go on long winning streaks after a down stretch all year.

Here's the funny thing; I felt that briefly and then moved on mentally. I would feel a lot worse of these games had been closer but this is simply a better team they are facing right now. We accepted that the Cubs were a better team than the Cardinals despite the roles being reversed earlier in the season but we're all having a tough time accepting how good this Mets team is right now. It's just true. They've thrown three excellent starters up there while the Cubs don't have three on the roster. Their hitters have looked like they would not take that pitching behind them for granted. Meanwhile our team has looked tired, confused and finally last night, frustrated. It sucks. It's also not all that surprising.

The Cubs need more pitching and that's never been so obvious. I believe they'll get it. They also need another contact hitter in that line up. That one will take some soul searching. This has been the most fun I've had watching a Cubs team in my lifetime. I'm pissed that it's ending but I'm not going to let that diminish my feelings for how proud I am of this team. There's not a lot of shame in getting best by a better team. We've seen Cubs teams lose to lesser teams. This ain't that. I trust that the next time they're here these kids will have learned something.

If you want the be all end all romance, the Cubs had to lose the first three. Then a ninth inning come from behind victory in game 4 to start the magic train. I can see the Disney movie now.

I know it's slim, but have faith. There's been no blowout losses.

1. Rookies and young players revealing their lack of post-season experience
2. Cracking under pressure
3. Defensive errors galore
4. Mets are playing really well
5. We still have holes in our lineup, with pitching and bats/def

But this team will only get better. Frustrating game to watch last night, but with a few moves, I think we're right back here next year. Still got one game.

Joe Madden has been an epic failure this series -
1)Why does he continue to pitch to Murphy who is the best hitter in the world right now?
2)Never should have played Soler in GM 1 and 2. The minute he saw him wanting to wear his winter coat under his jersey, you were going to get nothing but 6 outs out of the guy.
3)Continues to bat his best player/hitter in Schwarber 2nd while getting absolutely zero out of Rizzo and Bryant (who have been anything short of pathetic/chokers this post season)

I'm not a fan of the "well, they're young and will be back here" - when the actual fact is, they may never get this opportunity again. I'm sure Theo loves selling the "I've done this before (win 4 in a row after being down 3-0)" but the fact is, that's a ridiculous annomoly

This has been a very disappointing ending to a season.

While there hasn't been any "blowout losses"....none of the games have been remotely close

I don't understand the "lack of post season" experience.

None of the Mets starting pitchers have "post season" experience.

It's not as if the fastballs are faster, the curve balls curve more, runners run faster.

Refusal to hold runners close.
Terrible managing
Inability to catch fly balls....or routine ground balls.

Those plays are simple baseball plays. Just terrible focus and leadership by the guy that's "been there" before. Maybe less focus on playing Jim Fowler (The Animal Planet guy) and more focus on actual baseball leadership would have helped Madden win this series
