Maybe it's just me but i find lovie smith coaching college football comical.

Aren't college coaches loud, adament, animated, dictators and in total control?

About the complete opposite of lovie smith.......guy should be a nfl defensive coordinator, where he excels.

He actually said this:

"I thought we were ready for prime time," coach Lovie Smith said. "We're not quite there yet."

Lovie is the only man in the world that can sleep standing up

I knew a guy in the Army who got busted sleeping on guard duty in my first OIF tour while he was standing up. So, Lovie's at least one of two.

They'll go 6-6 and win the PutUpABillboardInAShittyPartOfTown.com bowl and he'll become more stubborn than he already is.
They don't have the talent on this roster to do much more than 6-6. The back end of the defense is suspect. A bowl, any bowl, would be a very successful year. And BTW, even though the UNC game did not go the Illini's way, they did have a 4 star recruit visiting in Sold Out Memorial Stadium.

He had a rough game. Besides the two fumbles, he just wasn't very accurate, and checked down too often.

We will see where the Illini are at next week. Western Michigan beat Northwestern.

I love some of the comments to about Lovie in this thread after only his second game as a college HC. The doofi (plural of doofus) here would have you believe that Smith can wave a magic wand and change the players Beckman and Cubit recruited into beasts. They certainly can improve them, but they aren't magically going to get faster on the edge or become better in the defensive backfield. Lunt isn't going to become a dual-threat QB. If anyone cares to take a look at Louisville and the quarterback, those are the kinds of players McGee recruits. It won't be more than a couple of years before Illinois is competing for first place in B1G West.

Lovie has been in control. He has been in control of hiring a terrific staff that matches up with any in the country. McGee has not only had success as an OC, he is considered one of the top recruiters in the game. Nickerson? How many players get to play for a former NFL All-Pro? Mike Phair, the DL coach, was the co-DC last season and has NFL experience. OL is coached by Luke Butkus. Just off top of my head.
