I lived in Hawaii for four years and never got Island fever, didn't miss the seasons either. If you don't enjoy going to the beach, snorkeling, kayaking or fishing then Hawaii is not for you. It helps to live on the beach though.

I love Chicago, I really do. But I am BORED of this damn state. Where is a good place for an umarried twenty somethin to spend the next couple of years??!!! I need ideas. Best and worst places please. :)

Well if you love Chicago then I can't see the need to even think about the whole state.

Have you been all over it? If not then don't say it's boring.

You sound very silly.

Yep. Lived there for 3 years. Island Fever is real.

What is there to do after a month of going to the beach? Seriously, that is all you have. Beaches full of tourists. Water splash in, water splash out. Oh, another luau.... great. Of course, if you can manage to afford living on an island comfortably, you can see the other islands.... which also gets old quick.

Don't get me wrong. I loved Hawaii, I miss it. But I'm not dumb enough to want to live there again. A vacation here and there is all you need.

If going to the beach and island hopping gets boring, how could you possibly stomach living in Chicago? The beach here sucks. Yes we've got some world class museums but once you see them, you see them. What else is there? Bars, Restaurants? Every place has that. Can't hike for shit in Illinois except Starved Rock. There are no worthwhile weekend trips around here because the other midwest cities are boring as ****.

Well, I'm a longtime Bulls season ticket holder. I haven't gotten sick of that yet.

You're too focused on the tourist attractions. I have only been to one of the museums in the last 20 years, IDGAF about them. Like I said in my first post, you are one of two persons. I have my friends and family here, and we always manage to find things to do. Never a dull moment. I also have my business established here and lucky for me, Chicago has everything I need and more. I still go to concerts, hang out with car clubs, rarely go to the beach, take road trips, go skiing in the winter, do a few jumps a year with skydive chicago, go fishing and hunting, horseback riding, paragliding, gardening, I know the communities here and work with charities... etc etc. I'm always busy and love it. I also LOVE 4 season weather. The winter here is a big plus for me, and the fact that it is only a season long makes it perfect.

If you don't drink your nights away, you'll find a lot to do here. Plus you wont blow your money and be able to afford some nice things. I started off dead broke, was homeless, so it's not like some kind of unfair comparison or witches magic. You have to learn how to entertain yourself and others. It doesn't matter where you go. Learn to make friends, learn to split 8lb burgers(because you have friends to do things with). Stuff like that.

That's why I live in Texas. Snow maybe 3 times a year is plenty for me.

Which part? Thought about going to Houston but the traffic is unbearable and the attractions don't make up for having to deal with that.

I live about 40 miles north of Dallas. My wife is from Houston so we get down there a lot. Close to the bay. Houston has some very nice areas but the weather sucks. Were you looking to visit or move there?

We all have some free time Mrs G, but honestly figure out how much free time you have to fill up with non-adult tasks such as bills, family functions, cleaning, fixing stuff, etc in your average week?

Now subtract the time you spend on normal entertainment stuff.... movies, TV, sports, dinner with friends/family, birthdays, etc.

Now how much time are you truly trying to fill ? And what are you wanting to fill in that time which you cannot do because of location of where you live or because of cold/snow during the Winter months?

Personally I realize the winter can suck, and it can be depressing and it can weigh on you.... but consider how much you enjoy things that come up during the Spring and Summer... events that come up during those periods which are not available year round.... Taste of Chicago.... if that event was once a month would it be special? Local events of similar nature.... summer fests.... Fall fests.... if weather was constantly the same and attractions were always available and always the same.... how enjoyable are they?

I look at the Winter as a challenge every year.... a challenge that is easy to overcome now with an AWD vehicle and some good books, movies, video games, and friends/family.... where as 100 years ago or further back you might worry about whether or not you had stored enough food to get you by.

You should not look at the Chicago Winter as robbing you of 4 months of your life, but enriching the other 8 months of the year.

Just my 2 cents..... look for once I am not trolling you Mrs G, enjoy it

Easy to overcome even without an AWD vehicle. Winters here are a joke. Even a bad winter is like a normal winter in other more northern areas, and they don't shut down schools or have anywhere near as well-plowed roads as we have.

Yes I know, I was being purposely overcompensating.

But I much prefer having AWD in the Winter to not....

I guess I was purposely undercompensating. :troll:

You know, I ride Lake Shore drive in snowstorms on my huffy, while bitches be stuck in 3' of snow with their SUVs.

lol probably cause they are dum cunts who buy an SUV without 4WD or AWD.... my sister did that last summer, bought a Nissan Murano and I was like "Nice, 4WD for the Winter?" and they go "Oh no, we just got the FWD".... come Winter she was bitching about the Murano not doing any better in the snow than her old car....well duh its the same FWD.

I had a few AWD vehicles, and TBH, the money you save on sticker and at the pump can easily buy you a set of winter steel rims with snow tires(plus some pocket change). I'm not a big AWD fan, especially here when 95% of roads are plowed before there is enough snow to be an issue. Snow tires on a modern FWD car > modern AWD car with summer tires on Chicago winter roads(which is what I see a lot of on the road, people with summer tires, or BARELY all-season tires in the winter because they don't know wtf they're doing).

I have said it before.... I have driven FWD in heavy snow and AWD in heavy snow.... I will take AWD any day.... had my tires spin on me a ton with FWD.... gotta slam on it to get going.... AWD in snow is easier to drive in a safer way.... easier to accelerate slowly and safely...

After these past 2 winters I am glad I bought AWD.

At one point, I was considering moving. Funny thing, I was actually about ready to close on a nice apartment in the Galleria area. Left around 4pm, was bumper to bumper for 2 hours to get to my hotel and I said **** it, I'm not moving for this shit.
