If I ever have kids, I'd like to raise them here so they grow up normal.

And what makes you think they wouldn't be normal if you raised them elsewhere?

Every place in the world has things to do.

I bet if you ended up being from someplace else you would of have found yourself being bored there too.

Probably better that it's too hot than being too cold.

Yup. This is what I always tell people:

"Being super hot just means you're uncomfortable. Being super cold means that it hurts."

The thing is you can always put on more clothes to keep warm, but you can only get so naked and still be sweating your fucking ass off. I, for one, prefer to avoid my nuts sticking to my leg as much as humanly possible. But hey, maybe that's just me.

I love Chicago, I really do. But I am BORED of this damn state. Where is a good place for an umarried twenty somethin to spend the next couple of years??!!! I need ideas. Best and worst places please. :)

I swear you people have shit to say about every single thing I say or do.

MrsRax, you started the thread. You say "I am BORED of this damn state" people replied. You asked a question, for the most part got legit answers.

In the future don't start the thread, or tell everyone up front that you don't want answers to your questions. How are we supposed to know the question was rhetorical?

To be fair, you never said the part in bold.

You said you're bored of the state and you hate the winters here.

Yes, bored of the state. Not bored of Chicago, but Chicago is part of this boring state. The winter sucks. I would like to experience what else this country has to offer. Born and raised here.....time to spread my wings.

I understand wanting a change of scenery though. I've been wanting to move to California... But I only know one person there and I don't really have the money. I don't have a problem with Chicago... I just wanna be away for a little bit.

Try D.C., or maybe go to Florida? I live in PA, I hate this goddamn state, hopefully after school and everything I can move either out to Chicago, which I wanted before, not sure of now, down south, or out to the countryside where I lived when I was a kid. The last one is still in this state, and that is the only one that is really acceptable for staying here.

My best friend is moving back from Australia in March and she's headed out to LA.....so there's a good chance I'll end up joining her haha. My sister lives in DC but I hate politics and I prefer to be far from them.

Having resided in both another state and another country, I can assure you it isn't what most people imagine. People seem to think relocation to their favorite vacation spot will solve all their problems. Then reality sets in, usually in the form of work/bills and they soon realize contentment comes from within.

Beaches get old fast, and you'll miss the holidays in Chicago. I didn't care if it was 20 below, still flew up every year from Florida just to see something different.

See how this works now?.

I've lived here for almost 15 years and I still love it. BUT, it would be nice to have some variation from time to time. My ultimate plan is to split my time between FL and NC, ironically in the same town that BearsBud lives in. That should make for fun times. But I got some work to do before I can pull that off financially and logistically.

DC isn't all politics, there is a lot to do in DC and northern VA...I would also say Richmond is an up and coming city, great food scene, great craft beers, cost of living is reasonable, fall and spring is great, summers get humid, and you get the occasional snow storm. But all in all weather isn't too bad. It's a couple hours from the beach, close to DC which is a lot of fun, mountains for hiking isn't far to get to, if you like kayaking the James River is good for that, and a ton of history if you want to nerd out. I have lived here my whole life and have grown out of the night life scene but there is a ton to do on the weekends at night.

So if you want to be close to family but not have to deal with DC traffic or high cost of living Richmond isn't a bad alternative. You also mentioned Charleston, I have only heard great things about Charleston...I plan on going there this spring for a long weekend, I hear they have some incredible restaurants.

Western NC is nice. The last time I drove back here from FL, I took a detour through Cherokee and hiked the Appalachian trail. Didn't get far though, cuz' I brought a six pack.:D

Ideally we would all like to be snowbirds so to speak, problem is most of us cannot afford to support 2 homes in the U.S.

This is why places such as the Dominican Republic are so appealing. Done properly, a 300K Florida home can be built for 50K.
