It is a good example of how defense is so important in playoff ball, just as Rizzo's play was a good example as well to get the 3rd out and keep from a big inning. Although, Castro made a good tag on that play.

Made a good tag on WHAT play?

5-4 cards up. Be nice if they just quit on the season.

Other than Jon Lester, who on this team is LESS competent at executing that play? He bunted. Great. Who doesn't do that as well as he does? Hendricks, maybe?

Get your nose out of his ass for making routine plays and start seeing all the shit he does wrong.

I have to agree with you, with all due respect to other people, there are more Castro blind supporters now than supposed Castro haters, imo. In the playoffs, runs are hard to come by against great pitching. It's defense that usually makes a difference. Castro is just not our best defender, period, no matter what he does with the bat.

This is why he lost the starting SS job. Maddon recognizes it as everyone else should. As far as the bunt, that's on Maddon, imo. Players should be able to bunt, period. It is somewhat of a lost art today. Yes, it was a good bunt, but it was the element of surprise, or manufacturing of a run that was the bigger call, imo.

Works two ways TL....try looking at what he does well.

List the things he does better than an average MLB player.
Hit? No.
Field? Hell no?
Run the bases? No.
Lead? Don't make me laugh.

Was it Baez on the tag? That doesn't surprise me. I missed the replay and thought Castro made the tag cuz I didn't see it originally. Where was Castro, when you say out of position?

If he plays in the playoffs, we're screwed. Plain and simple.

Pay him to start for the opponent.

Some fans can't see the value of defense and smart play. But I promise you, the Cardinals organization sees it. As o other winners - including Theo and Jed.

No way in hell does this guy see the field in St. louis.

Castro was on the outfield side of second and was in position to make the tag as soon as the runner was safely into second.

I don't think the "average" MLB player has made two all-star teams. Has he been bad this year...yes he has. But Joe Maddon isn't giving up on him and his opinion holds a hell of a lot more weight than anything you or any other fan has to say about him.

I agree. This is a big reason I like Bryant at 3B, instead of moving to OF. As good as Javi looked at 3B the other day, the Cubs are clearly better with Russell and Baez up the middle. An infield of Bryant, Russell, Baez, and Rizzo, is much better, imo, than Baez, Russell, Castro, and Rizzo.

I will try to find an article I read showing how Castro hurts the Cubs double play %'s. The Cubs are much better with Castro out of the middle infield at turning two, and it wasn't even close.
