The runner that just scored never reaches base with wither of our top two defensive middle infielders playing second.

And getting one single every once in a while does NOT offset that! No matter what a lovestruck fan might say.

Yes, Jake fucked up. But that runner should NEVER have been on second.

PLAY YOUR BEST DEFENDERS!

This is deeper than that play for me. I love me some Jake and Lester, but they are big leaguers. This thing with them air mailing 9 foot tall Rizzo isn't a good thing

Castro couldn't keep last night's throw from Montero from going into CF, and effed up tonight - not his error!! He's clean!!

But we LOSE.

The difference between him IN the line up, and OUT OF the lineup is simple - WIN vs LOSS.

Are you saying Baez makes that play on Polanco?

It is a good example of how defense is so important in playoff ball, just as Rizzo's play was a good example as well to get the 3rd out and keep from a big inning. Although, Castro made a good tag on that play.

Agreed. 100%.

Defensive lapses kill. Bad D kills.

My point all year.

So many fans look only at offense and constantly want the bat in the lineup. But you HAVE to play the best defenders.

Yes, and the Cubs don't get their second run without a perfect safety squeeze. I know runs don't matter to you.

You guys are both right here. As fans, we can ***** about more than one thing at a time lol. Great bunt by Castro, but bad defense by him as well as Jake. Let's settle down here boys

Are you saying Baez makes that play on Polanco?

I am saying every time Castro is involved, our D suffers and some people make excuses for him rather than face facts. He made an "effort" on the ground ball, but he i slow to go to the ball, and when he dove he missed it - with his eye off the ball. The guy RARELY makes a defensive play, and usually gives a half ass effort.

YES, with Baez at 2nd, this is a 2-0 game.

Are yo suggesting Castro would have tagged the runner out on Rizzo's throw if Baez wasn't there? No effing way.
Dude was not in position, and would have made the usual - "hey look, I tried, but we didn't succeed" type of play he makes all the time.

Lol, Castro was quick to that ball and if gets it has no shot at throwing out Polanco. Do you know how fast Polanco is? LOL WTF is going on here.

Other than Jon Lester, who on this team is LESS competent at executing that play? He bunted. Great. Who doesn't do that as well as he does? Hendricks, maybe?

Get your nose out of his ass for making routine plays and start seeing all the shit he does wrong.

I wasn't referring to either on that play, I meant that in general for both. Castro is error prone and Jake has airmailed 1st a few times this season. Sorry, that was confusing

Russell and Castro both RH. Castro is hitting the ball better right now. Need runs to win. Russell hit the rookie wall and needs a bit of refreshment. It isn't that big of a deal, IMHO.
