Seems like every big Cubs prospect debut hits a HR in first game or AB.

I'm just gonna say it...
Keep Happ up , let him play LF and leadoff and either sit Schwarber or send him down to Iowa...

He down to .185 and that OBP that everyone keeps hyping because of walks has dropped all the way to about
.315 now..

Maybe Happ gives them a spark they need at top of order....
Why not try it, it can't make them any worse

So, cubs continue to struggle....
What would they get in return on trades of Arrieta and Lackey as rentals..

Think we need around 50 AB's to see where Happ is at. He was banging HR's in Iowa also so that part he has figured out. See if he doesn't BA plummet in his stint. Ball is in his court right now.

Not sure on Candy and why he is not transitioning to MLB pitching. He made Iowa look like a joke. So something doesn't add up with him.

If you're within 10 games of .500 at trade deadline, you're contending for 2nd WC spot.

May 13th White Flag trade?

Please stop posting.

It's too easy to expect a team to run away, especially when they just did last year. But it's crazy to talk like this.

As some wise man said years ago, don't even look at standings until Flag Day.

Honestly they could run Happ in RF when Heyward gets back.

Something like:

Schwarber LF
Bryant 3B
Rizzo 1B
Happ RF
Zobrist 2B
Contreras C
Heyward CF
Baez SS

when Russell gets 100% then Baez goes back to UI.

Then they need to decide on Candy or LaStella. Right now it is LaStella by hitting and able to cover 2B also. Almora goes to 4th OF. If Schwarber continues to struggle then they should demote him when Jay is back up.

But this hinges on performance from these guys. If they are hovering around .500 by July then they should think of selling their short term contract because this team is not going deep into anything as is. That point retool.

Maybe...

My point was come late June or July and their still somewhat struggling ..
Do they consider moving Arrieta and Lackey to try and get something for them..

If their 10 games under , most likely cause those two are struggling...
Hitters are struggling..

So, unless they pay out all their top prospects for big time help (which they won't do), just to try and be the 2nd WC team.. not worth it..

Better off getting what they can with guys that will be gone after the year, see if they can make a deadline deal for a controlled starter and retool for 2018..

You know what's funny about your posts? If you actually got dumber, I'd just assume they were sarcastic and think you were smarter so congrats on finding the rock bottom of where I feel your level of baseball knowledge is.

Just so you know, here is your argument

- If Arrieta and Lackey are struggling and the team is 10 games under .500, should the Cubs trade them for value even though they're older and going to be FA?

Do you see anything wrong with that statement and the logic that you're using?

I said they should get what they can for them...

So, instead of just losing them at end of year for nothing, see if they can get at the very least a low level prospect..

I'm sure Lackey will be tough to deal and their probably stuck with him, unless they just release him..

Arrieta even if he struggling, you always have some contending teams looking for help at bottom of rotation..

Both guys, teams usually hold out hope that maybe a change of scenery and or just being in a playoff chase will get them going..
Both with that experience might intrigue a team to take a shot with them over what they have in their 4th or 5th spot in rotation.

Hopefully they can all get their shit together soon and start playing some winning baseball..

Ok, lets deal with some reality here. As it stands this team has s a .500 team and I don't see them becoming worse than that. If they're .500 at the deadline they'll be buyers not sellers. Now if that is the case I doubt they spend big on a rental like Darvish instead making a move that helps now and the future. Still there is virtually no scenario, outside of a major injury, where this team is in position to sell in July. None. Zero.

That what were hoping..

There 7 weeks, 44 games til July 1st

Yes, plenty of time to get things going in right direction, wish I hope they do sooner rather then later..

But

There a chance that some of these guys just don't get over the hump or just can't get them all clicking together to play above .500 ball in those 44 games..

If that the case, then I think yes they should consider moving guys who they don't expect to be a part of 2018 and look into seeing if a deal can be made for pitching prospects or a controlled starter..

Cubs have 389 PA with RISP (tied 2nd most in MLB)

.216 Avg with RISP ( lowest in NL, 4th lowest in MLB)

That the struggle from having 6 main hitters hitting .243 or below in lineup..
Can't count on anyone to get a big hit in those situations.

Stems from Rizzo and Zobrist slumping after Bryant. That is where you get your production.

You can include Schwarber in that too for not getting on in front of Bryant and coming up with Heyward Jay/Almora Baez on base and not producing...
Which was pretty much the point of him leading off.. His high OBP and being able to hit for power and drive in runs..
