Just strange that you see a pitcher PR for a scrappy little middle infielder..

Well most middle infielders are quick. I did mention this in the preseason that La Stella doesn't offer much. His glove is meh as is his speed. He's literally just a bat with little power. Granted I was some what underselling his bat though no on purpose. I just didn't expect him to hit as well as he has.

Not about being frustrated...

Just want your team to win

Yea their not gonna win them all but it just sucks to lose against bad teams, and or lose because they give up a run(s) late or cant get a big hit..

I want or hope this season for the Cubs can be like the year the bulls won 72 games and capped it off with a Championship...
I just want this season to be extra special for them and for us fans who have gone through many many losing seasons and waited for a season like this is so far and can hopefully be in the end with a Championship.

This is the best team in baseball and it isn't even close. This is the best team, to this point, in 15 years and it isn't close. In watching baseball for as long as I have I know that great teams sometimes lose to inferior ones. Statistically not a lot, but they do. Sometimes it's just a mental let down, other times it's just the vagaries of the game. I want this team to win every night but I'm just not going to get all angsty when they don't. I heard Ron Coomer interviewed last week and he mentioned he had listened to a sports radio show after a loss and he was unprepared for the level of anger for a team playing .700 ball. On one hand he was glad people were passionate but on the other he lamented that if fans were going to get up and down like that "it's going to be a long season for them" and he noted how sad that was when seasons like this one don't come along very often. I'm far less concerned about a Tuesday loss to the Phillies as I was excited about sweeps of Pittsburgh and Washington and taking 2 of 3 from St. Louis not only when the Cubs weren't playing that well but when St. Louis looked like they were getting their mojo back. I think they got to 5 games back and a couple of weeks later they're 10.5 out.

We all talk about improvements that can be made and that's great. Certainly a lefty pen arm, maybe righty pen arm and a tweak here or there will help but this is a team that's 40-17 and is actually underachieving based on Pythagorean record and a look at some of the slash lines. I'm not in any way saying don't get pissed off at a loss, by all means do so, but come back to earth pretty quickly and realize what you've been watching is unreal. You when you live and die for the outcomes of games? The playoffs, and those could be very different from the regular season simply because in MLB you can actually predict nothing in October. Let's save up the angst for then.

****this is a great piece by the way putting in anecdotal and statistical perspective what we are watching

Honestly, I find it best to just enjoy the game rather than enjoying your team. Ultimately you're going to lose over 30% of your games most seasons. So, if you can find enjoyment in a loss you get more out of a season. I rarely get to worked up over losses especially games like last night. The cubs didn't play bad they just didn't catch the breaks they needed to win. About the only time I really get frustrated is when the team beats themselves via bad decisions or bad effort. And with the 2016 cubs, they have had all of like 4 of those games all season.

The irony about being a good team is you're going to lose a lot more 1 run games because you're going to be closer in most games. But I think most people have a more difficult time dealing with 1 run losses than say a 3+ run loss because you are "right there."

I obviously root for them to win every game.
I obviously know their not going to win every game...

There nothing wrong with having a shit fuc dam assault during games or immediately after, especially in close games..
It what you do as a fan

You discuss the game and what pissed you off or what you liked about it..

That what being a sports fan is...

Its not .. oh they tried hard; tough lost , we will get them tomorrow. .
Unless I guess youre from the everyone gets a trophy generation. .

Almora really needs to get a bit closer to home plate....they're gonna torture him on the outside corner.

Almora:

Good news:
-Great postioning and throw on the put out at home

Bad news:
-Is it even possible to this guy to stand further away from home plate and still be in the batters box? MLB pitching will have this guy reaching and diving after the ball constantly

I said that in a different thread. MLB pitchers will chew him up if he doesn't. In fact, he stands further away than anyone I have seen since Willie Mays

I like Matt Szczur, but it would be a waste for the Cubs to call up Almora and have him sit on the bench. They need to play him a lot.

And I like Baez more than Russell, I'd rather have him in.

I missed the game, but I am baffled that Maddon batted him 6th. The guy has very little power. He doesn't strike out much, but he also doesn't walk at all.

Baez hitting isn't a coincidence. Less than a week ago he came out to say that he has been concentrating on hitting lately. He was playing so many different positions that he was working constantly on defense. Now, he thinks he has a good grasp of the positions he is playing and he is focusing on offense. He has seemed to turn it on since then.
