Yesterday it was Maples. He has no business in the majors and they keep on beating themselves up promoting him.

I was hoping that Alzolay would be good enough to stick around. But even before today he seems to get out of rhythm if something goes wrong. With the walk fest the last game. game before he gave up a HR and came unraveled. Today he just got pounded.

So uneducated guess. He is young.

Hmmmm ....don’t recall that.

1st game https://www.mlb.com/gameday/mets-vs...state=final,game_tab=play-by-play,game=565161

9th inning HR. Then mound visit. Then walk. Then Joe pulls him. Joe said that he felt that he was losing it after the HR.

https://www.mlb.com/gameday/braves-...state=final,game_tab=play-by-play,game=565166

Walk, mound visit (short leash again), Throwing error on pick off. The fly out, line out. Walk. 2nd mound visit. walk then yank.

Today he had nothing. But I didn't get to watch the game to see if he was off. Or Pitt had scouted him. Pitchers have tenancies and that could have come into play. But hit by pitch and walks. His command was shit.

Maybe he could have pieced it together if they let him.

But from what I saw was Joe had a short leash on his first 2 games. anything bad happens he goes to the mound. This game went to mound before Matre. Then it imploded. Then Joe let him figure it out the hard way.

I just see this as the learning process. I would demote him though. They have a off day Friday and Hondo returning. At this point they need fresh arms.

His issue before today seemed much more like a stamina issue than coming unraveled

I thought so at first but I was noticing little things that made me feel like he is young still. He is really good but he needs to learn how to pitch through it. I remember with Woody would not have his slider and get jacked when he was younger. Then he learned to have a B game. Where he would goto a change up/fastball to change timing.

Why wouldnt we be? We have been injured and have 70 plus games to go while still holding a firm spot in the NL.
Firm? Dude they are heading south and in a hurry. 1 game out now and this was a total lopsided beat down. They can’t win on the road and they appear to be heading to 3 games out by the all star break. Last September was rough but they didn’t look this bad. They might be fighting just for the 2nd wildcard spot since the central is the weakest division at the top, battling teams like the Phillies, Rockies, and cardinals and possibly the Nationals

"The rookie largely cleaned up his command mistakes in his last start, when he issued four walks. But the Pirates, who have been exceptional at putting the ball in play of late, capitalized on pitches in the middle-to-lower portion of the strike zone. Eight of their 10 hits came from that portion of the zone. "

Calm down. The season is 162 games.

New to this group of die-hard losers, sorry ... wake up!
Lol someone over on the pro sports daily cubs message board just said kimbrel was smart to sign here... big pay day with minimal work and he was 100 percent correct. Kimbrel might not get more than 4 save chances a month.

Is that the same amount of times you would wrestle your uncle in his basement?

Madden is terrible. Haven't seen so many bad decisions in all my 60+ years of following Cubs... including 2016.
Yet, people want to shake up this roster with a massive trade. They will get a leadoff type and Joe will hit him 9th.

I must have missed the massive trade thread.

All I've seen are go get Mitt for our garbage. Or the same garbage for Lindor.

Any time a quality piece is brought up a quick no never and nada is the common sense reply. Because all quality trades are completely one sided.

So there is no massive trade talk that I've seen here. Maybe on another site?

The one sided part of the trade usually happens from the team selling.. they ask for everything in return for one guy, don’t think it’s going to cost the top 3 or 4 prospects for Whit honestly. The cubs have guys with value.. even Happ, Bote, Almora, Russell have value and any 2 of those plus a top 5 prospect would be enough for a player of Whit Merrifield’s caliber. All of the above mentioned cubs players are young and controlled for multiple years so how do they not have any value? They also have major league experience and 2 of those are gold glove caliber defenders, one is a switch hitter that can play multiple positions and the other can also play all over
