Hearn or Quintero are the catchers of the future. If Amaya gets someone that can help immediately and for another year or 2 then you trade him now

Hamels has had a resurgence under him. Hendricks has pitched fine. Eventually we have to blame the pitcher for not throwing a strike.

Darvish has sucked regardless who is behind the plate. Montgomery same thing.

Amaya is in A+. I'm guessing that next year is AA. Then AAA for 2 years. That is typical for a catcher.

If you want to trade a catcher I'm thinking Victor. They can promote Davis to catch the 1 game per week that Contreras takes off. Victor has the abity to start with out the opportunity. That has value in a trade chip.

Well, since you predicted 75 wins, no. I am not ready to say you were right. I will gladly bet against it. I will take the over. 76 or more wins.

Pony up. Or shut up.
Wrong, I said 85 wins

You willing to go over 85

Need to get to the all star break and relax. No one in the division is killing it. They are all frustrated. They had a meeting today. And Montgomery needs to be dfa. 1-2 pitch and you throw a thigh high hanger right down the middle.
Sorry, but 4th inning after a 2 hour rain delay, with Maples is not allowed to finish the inning? If he wanted Montgomery in that spot he should have started the inning. we just see 2,3,4 and 5 only change if carrot top is catching. Maybe its time to juggle those guys around. Javy, Schwarber, KB, Rizzo. Try something for christs sake, not just forget about yesterday..
It makes you wonder what lineup a replacement manager would put out there.

Well, if you have not been paying attention, Caratini is getting 2-3 games a week because they are scared to death of Willson running out of gas again.

Hamels just got the lat problem that made him tradable two or three years ago.

Not the same oblique. Not a lat injury BTW. Last time it was his right side and he said it felt like he was shot with a gun. This time it was the left and he felt a grabbing sensation. So he shut it down.

He should be back POST ASG.

Regarding off time Contreras will play in the ASG. So his off time will end up less. I get that point. But outside of injury he is going to catch 80% of the time. Even then it is when they are on a string of 10+ days that Joe sets up rest days. If there is a off day already he has the luxury of keeping the starters on the field more.

I guess it would make sense to overwork Willson and watch his second half fall off again like last year since its ok for Maddon to not learn lessons. Especially when you got a guy that pitchers WANT to throw to who hits .288.

Or they could have Schwarber don the gear and swap both LF & C like they did in Tenn.

Kyle is not catching ever again... that ship sailed several years ago. Moving parts around isn’t going to help this team, they have no bench, they have no 2nd baseman and they barely have an outfield

I keep telling you, it is the perfect answer. There are clearly pitchers that are not comfortable with Willson behind the plate and Schwarber is in the best shape of his career...

I would rather have him do video work and catch so BP on his off days this year. Get upto speed first. Then train his body for it in the off-season. He was a linebacker and he knows how to take a hit at the plate.

But I like the idea of a personal catcher. It creates a working relationship with that starter. Then on your off day play LF.

Plus it allows Willson to keep his bat in the game. It just makes too much sense to ever happen. We should do a go fund me to get Schwarber and Darvish a trip to Arizona over the all star break.

It won’t happen because schwarber isn’t a major league catcher and said so himself. Contreras is third in pop time from home to second. He is behind realmuto and I forgot the other guy. I would like to move Contreras out of behind the plate but for an actual catcher. Not a guy who wasn’t even an average catcher in college. By your logic, Bryce Harper should play catcher every now and then because he did so in juco.

Juco? You are comparing that to a guy that caught for two years in the minors and one in the majors?

You realize in 2015, he slashed .328/.414/.632 when he was a catcher? .212/.326/.432 as a left fielder?

I dont remember him saying that. and I dont know what good pop time is when the pitchers dont seem to want to work with him.

I found one recent article:

‘‘Yes, I think I could have become a good catcher,’’ he said flatly. ‘‘It would’ve been like anything else.’’

His dad takes it further.

‘‘I think he is very disappointed that he isn’t catching,’’ Greg Schwarber said. ‘‘I think he’s a catcher at heart. Do I think he could’ve been a catcher? I do. I’m not a major-league player or scout, but I know my son and I know what’s in his heart. I think he’s worked past it, but — in his heart — catching was always where he saw himself. Kyle’s personality is a leader. As a catcher out there, he assumed a leadership role. That was important to him. That’s who he is.’’

I am sure you know better.

Are you trying to say he would be a better hitter as a catcher? Are you really that dumb? He logged 136 innings as a catcher in 2015. He had 8 Wild Pitches 2 Pass Balls and a 18% caught stealing rate. Those are atrocious even for the small sample. He caught 7 innings in 2017. Im sure at the top of Theo and Jed list is lets catch Schwarbs. Really change the dynamic. Sure, he has almost zero ability behind there and may have tore his ACL but **** it. HE is the answer. This may be the dumbest thing you have ever brought up and your only justification is his slash line that you think wouldnt suffer trying to learn the hardest fucking defensive position on the field. Mind fucking BLOWN!

P.S. Bryce Harper was considered a much better catcher than Schwarbs coming out. He was switched because his bat was way ahead of his catching ability.

There are people here (and by “people” I mean one person) that simply cannot let go of the idea that Schwarber should be a catcher.

Pre-injury, as you stated, he was awful. Then he hurt his knee.

It is ridiculous to think he should catch again, but apparently we will never convince a certain someone.

I am not sure which is my favorite part, the contention that Schwarber would be a better hitter playing a position that takes a physical toll on one’s body, or the reference to what his father thinks.

Cubs Promote Robel Garcia
July 3rd, 2019 at 2:37pm CST • By Steve Adams
The Cubs have selected the contract of infielder Robel Garcia from Triple-A Iowa and optioned righty Dillon Maples to open a spot on the 25-man roster, president of baseball operations Theo Epstein announced today in a radio appearance on 670 The Score (Twitter link). Chicago has open space on the 40-man roster, so the Cubs won’t need to designate anyone for assignment or move a player to the 60-day IL.

Garcia’s path to the Majors is an interesting one, to say the least. Signed by the Indians out of the Dominican Republic back in 2010, the now-26-year-old Garcia was released at the end of Spring Training in 2014. He was out of affiliated ball from 2014-18 before the Cubs rediscovered him playing for a professional team in Italy. Garcia obviously didn’t enter the season considered to be anywhere near the Cubs’ upper echelon of prospects, but he’s rapidly put himself on the team’s radar and now finds himself ticketed for the big leagues.

“He’s completely exceeding everybody’s expectations,” Cubs director of international scouting Alex Suarez told Tommy Birch of the Des Moines Register in late June. “Obviously, it’s a surprise to the organization that he’s been able to make the adjustment as quickly as he has.”

To say that Garcia has made adjustments is an understatement. In a combined 291 plate appearances between Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa, Garcia has posted an eye-opening .285/.364/.594 batting line with 21 home runs, 14 doubles and a triple. He’s punched out an alarming 31 percent of the time thus far, including 34.2 percent in Iowa, but Garcia’s power is clearly a source of genuine intrigue — particularly with Addison Russell once again underwhelming at the plate and offseason pickup Daniel Descalso struggling to a similar extent. Garcia has played all four infield slots with the Cubs this season and is a switch-hitter, making him a particularly interesting and versatile asset for the Cubs.
