That's what I like about Maddon. What i dont like is when he brings those he is giving a rest in to play the 8th and 9th innings. If you are giving them a day off give them the fucking day off.

That what happens with a short bench

Montero LaStella Rizzo Heyward

Try not to use the Catcher, so all they would have then is LaStella if they didn't use Rizzo or Heyward.

You know if the game close late, their most likely going to PH or be used for defensive replacements.

Plus its baseball, so they bat once or play the field for an inning or two, its not like their doing hard labor and will be totally exhausted.

I think Rizzo does more with running around for his charity stuff then he does in a ballgame?

Not everybody has to load up on ensure before they play.

Them going out there for an inning or two as defensive replacements isnt hurting them. Rizzo, Bryant, and Russell are all under the age of 26. I think they are fine.

When a guy gets a day off, he doesn't have to do all the little things that go into his ability to play (reading scouting reports, taking swings, fielding, stretching, etc). When you just ask a guy to play an AB or two late in the game, you gave him the "off" part of the day that truly matters.

Don't buy it. They should stop saying "day off" and just say "not starting"

Arrieta batting seems weird to me. He was at 108 pitches and likely will be coming out soon. You had a guy on first with nobody out down 2. Is that not the ideal situation to pinch hit?

Hard to guess what pitchers are gonna give this team trouble....this guy Corbin, had one good year awhile back and has been fairly unremarkable since. Today he's the new Tom Glavine.

Go figure.

Too early in the 5th.

Both still available now, though why we'd want heyward to bat is beyond me

Not because he pitched badly but after all the winning streak
Arrieta had a team lost for first time in a while last game and is about to lose his first game in over a year..
