Dude, you are 100% right that this is on Joe Maddon (and walks doing you in). I don't even think Jake should have even gone back out there at all. It wasn't even necessary. If you've got this great bullpen Rondon would have been fine to get 3 outs and Chapman to get 3 outs. Game over. Joe got too cute!

Had Maddon pulled the starter who had allowed no runs, and the pen pitched poorly( as they did) wouldn't you also be saying maddon was wrong?

Some fansblame the manager for players not executing no matter whst decision the mgr makes.

I disagree..
He comes out to start the 8th but should of been lifted after 1 baserunner not two..

That would make sense, as he isn't a First Baseman.
Then he shouldnt be playing first. This is the Pros and they are playing against the best plaers in the world. Playing people out of position is stupid

If you can hit the ball, they find a place for you. Go back to the Bears forum. Thank you.

Hey you beautiful man, you dont play people out of position on defense cause they can hit. YOu dont even realize how awesome you are.

Should have pulled Jake after the first walk. At that point Rondon is not in a jam. He normally comes in to start a inning. So this is not a situation you want him in. You either are looking for a sinker ball guy to get 2 or a strike out. I would have rather seen Strop here as he is used to coming in like this.

It happens. Get it next game.

But what about Miley. Now the trade rumors are starting with him after this game. All I can say is: hats off

I remember wanting Chapman to come in for Arrieta and then let Rondon close out the 9thouse if it was too much for Chapman

Is that crazy?

We beat Chris Sale but Miley obliterates us. So we'll probably crush Queen Felix tomorrow.

Not a great loss. On the plus side Zobrist seems to be hitting better the past week or so. Over the last 7 games he's hitting .375/.483/.500.

With all the hand wringing this one really came down to two things; Jake put 2 men on and Chapman failed to execute. Now you can blame Maddon for one or both of those baserunners if you so choose but it was still Arrieta throwing the pitches. Then it came down to a guy who doesn't make mistakes making a huge one. That's baseball, sorry.

As far as Miley goes I've seen almost no credit given to this guy's performance. Yes it's true he's not a great pitcher but he pitched an incredible game yesterday. Sometimes you give credit where credit is due.

Walks have been Jake's biggest issue over his struggles. After the first one in the 8th he should have been pulled. Maddon was too lenient with his "ace". He would have yanked Hendricks there.

That is why I called it out. Maddon plays up to his stars.

So it seems they are going to push today. Bringing up Matesu vs Felix.

Matesu's avg 4 seemer is at 88. I'm a little weary

That's an interesting way of spelling Matusz.....As for his fastball, his career average on it is 90.3. In 2015, he struck out 10.29 per 9 and it was 90.8. If nothing else cubs fans above most others should realize fastball speed isn't that big of a deal considering Hendricks' fastest career pitch is a 92.5 4 seam fastball and yet he's still 3rd in the majors in ERA.
