Things to know about this game
• Though Niese has had mixed success in eight career starts against the Cubs, he has held first baseman Anthony Rizzo and outfielder Chris Coghlan to a combined three hits in 24 at-bats.
• Bleachers or no bleachers, Wood is almost certainly glad to be starting at Wrigley. He is 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA at home this season, versus 0-2 with a 7.71 mark on the road. It's an exaggerated version of Wood's 2014 season, in which he posted a 4.63 ERA at Wrigley, 5.47 everywhere else.
• Mets center fielder Juan Lagares sat out a second straight game Wednesday as he continued to nurse a sore muscle underneath his right armpit. Though Lagares could return as soon as Thursday, the Mets want to make sure he is completely healthy before inserting him back in the starting lineup. In Lagares' absence, Kirk Nieuwenhuis has been manning center.

So would it be considered a luxury to promote Wada and have him start Wood's away starts then demote him until the next one? Or just plain smart baseball.

Doesn't seem smart to me. For one, even if everything goes to plan you're in a situation where you can't call Wada back up for 2 weeks I believe. Any injury and you're scrambling to find a guy to fill in. Additionally, I'm guessing Wada probably would have to clear waivers but i'm not certain on that.

Not sure. It would depend if he is on a split contract I would guess. Anyways I doubt teams are lining up for a 36 yo journey man.

not to mention paying him the 4 mil.

Tsuyoshi Wada lhp
1 year/$4M (2015)

1 year/$4M (2015)
re-signed by Chicago Cubs 11/1/14, replacing option in prior deal
may earn additional $2M in performance bonuses

The 4 mil alone tells me that they will have to bring him up soon. I can't see them not at this point.

from Cubs den:

Tsuyoshi Wada is starting for Iowa Thursday per Tommy Birch. Thus endeth the speculation. For now. Pitching coach Mike Cather said that the Cubs wanted him to work a bit more on the side with his FB command.

Sounds like they are playing for time here. They just lined up Wood and him and I'll bet if Wood shits the bed they will make the change.

Not to mention the exhaustion for the players and the inconsistency from normal rotational pitching.

Eh... i mean they signed Baker for what $5 mil to rehab most of the year? You have to have a lot of starter depth because invariably someone gets hurt and you need a 6th/7th starter. If they are trying to get him to the majors soonish I would imagine they are trying to find someone to off load Jackson on eating a large portion of his deal rather than all of it by releasing him. He'd make sense for a team like Philly for example who eventually will trade Hamels and need someone to eat innings while they tank at a reasonable price or a like wise bad time who has injuries.

Sadly I don't get this game on tv. I have to assume the wind is blowing out with 4 HRs today.

Yes, but that probably only may have helped Fowler homerun slightly. The mets homeruns are a homerun any day.

I would think this is Wood last inning. Almost at a 100 pitches and bats next inning.
