It doesn't necessarily mean that though... I think by sleeping giants they mean players in the FA market more than being good.

He could have said they had a good offseason lol. Or "They got way better". He didn't need to say their front office referred to them as sleeping giants, that's for sure. That implies that they've been thinking about the Cubs window for some time now. Cincy is no where near a threat. They will be lucky to threaten the Brewers for 4th place in the division

I don't know about that. They have an old roster and are expected to trade Cueto or Latos, and possibly more. Even as is, they were only 3 games better than the Cubs last year, and the Cubs have been a big winner this offseason. The Reds have done nothing.

Yeah the Reds had injuries, but the Cubs also revamped their entire team during the course of the season.

Pirates and Cardinals are still better, I don't think the Reds or Brewers are.

On paper sure because of known vs. unknown commodities but despite some of your off the cuff remarks I know you know the game and the Reds are an arrow pointing down team and the Cubs arrow is pointing up. Maybe more importantly the Reds could improve themselves more by looking ahead a year or two and making some trades towards that end than making "go for it moves". That doesn't mean they will do that but logic says they should. Long story short the difference between the Cubs and Reds on paper isn't huge.

One of the most frustrating things about your posts is that you refuse to project prospects as key players at all. While I agree you don't rely on prospects I usually tend to project more towards the upside than downside and I also usually project teams with developing players by what they can be at the trade deadline as opposed to projecting a season by what a team looks like in December or even April. It wouldn't surprise me if the Cubs were 5 games below .500 in July or 10 games above because that's baseball. If forced to project a whole season id say this is a 85-88 win team. That to me makes them less than the Pirates and of course the Cardinals and probably better or equal to the Reds and if you can confidently project anything on that Brewer team you're a better man than I. Plus you never ignore a team with money and prospects like the Cubs.To imply that people are ignorant for thinking the Cubs are better than the Reds is a stance that doesn't hold much water.
