Lester at 26 mil?

Sale/MadBum are making like 12 mil combined in 2015 & those two are miles better than Lester.

I just checked, and you're still not allowed to sign a player who is under contract to another team.

Someone wrote that Theo really wanted to get Lester to stick it to the Red Sox, as if Lester wouldn't be a target if he was coming from KC or Houston.

Now, I'm not saying Theo isn't extra happy because he DID beat the Red Sox. But to imply that was the reason to go after Lester is silly. Probably just poorly stated.

If I am Theo this morning, I get back at the Red Sox even more by calling and offering EJax for Cespedes. And cash.

I think people are missing this. Lester isn't going to be our ace for 6 years. The Cubs have wanted to acquire a younger ace type through trade. This is still on their agenda. You are probably looking at another tor guy, Lester, arrietta is what I think the Cubs hope to have for the 5 years or so

I think you are right. I think they are looking at three years ace, one year #2 and then take what is left on years 5,6 and possibly 7. The Cubs needed the hot girl in the club to get the guys in. They now have her. (Sorry Jon, no offense).

Oh, I also think it's possible that Lester is one of the rare guys that can be an ace into his late 30's too, but like I said, gravy after three years.

and theo would be laughed at. cherington im sure doesnt care as he cleaned up theos mess and won a WS. the chances that red sox win another one is soooo much higher than the cubs so the red sox are still the team vs the cubs.

the arrieta stuff is a little strange in my opinion. but to each their own i guess.

30 million sign on bonus? is that on top of this deal?

By "Theo Mess," do you mean the first WS that the Red Sox won since 1918?

lol. he inherited a 90 win team. haha. not like he took over some shit franchise that didnt spend. 90 win team with deep pockets, so deep that cherington cleared 200 million of it and won the world series.

now why are you in this thread? you hate jon lester because of 1 playoff game so I think its time for you to leave since logic is out the window for you.

Not sure if the Cubs think that or not. I still think that is the wrong question. I think a better question is far is the lineup from being good? Will Lester be a productive piece for the money at that time? If Lester does not line up with the line up (pun fully intended), is this still a good deal?

That is kind of silly. How many teams have won 90 games and did not win a championship in the next few years. I bet that list is very long.

I really don't understand why Sox fans hang out here just to hate. It seems very popular though.

Ummmm, yeeeahhh....it was a joke, dude.

Don't know what you're talking about with "Arietta stuff".

The $30 million is included in the $155 total. It is considered a signing bonus. $20 million paid now, not sure about the remainder. Which means that in year 5 or 6, Lester is making approx $21 million, not $25+. Takes money the Cubs aren't spending on PR now due to cost controlled youth, and spends it on Lester. It leaves his salary a little less onerous later in the event of a trade, or more importantly, as they start paying more to the young guys.

its just facts. he took over a team that won 90 games. he didnt take over a shitball team and turn it into contenders like beane has done over and over again with limited spending.

Don't waste your breath. He needs to try to discredit Theo to make himself feel better.

It is also factual to point out that many more teams won 90 games and did not win a ring in the next few years.

I still don't see your point. Winning in 2007 must have been luck too. And I am sure Epstein gets no credit for the 2013 one either.

The mods on this sight are horrible.

He is correct that theo has never done what he is doing with the Cubs. The cba is different now as well which put a hitch in his plans
