I guess Sakic is one of those idiot GMs you talk about. The guy was a pretty good player in his day, in case you didn't know - and made a point to add Briere, Iginla, and Stuart. All older than Orpik and do nothing but yell to the teammates from the bench
Didn't say zero value, said it was intangible. And paying that kind of money for that, in this case, is just throwing away money and potentially throwing away more money when he gets bought out a season or two from now. All it does it just add to the cluster **** that is the Washington Capitals.

Or...And stay with me ....he's being paid that to help straighten out what was the custerfuck they had going on there. That feel that paying him that, can help both the new coach and give a different direction to a team that needs it. His loud yelling of 'go get them' is something they value and are hoping it changes the team dynamics
lol there is no comparison with Iginla, he's still a very highly effective player. Probably will be for at least the next year or two. Stuart was brought in because they DESPERATELY need help for their blue line. The Briere trade was more or less for cap space the following year, he has an expiring contract while PA still had another year with 4m owed.

Well I wish them luck with that. How do you think he's going to help with changing the dynamics when it's his contract that becomes part of the problem in doing so and they realize what they've done to themselves? He's going to get bought out, that's what's going to happen. And all it becomes is a waste of time and money. They had opportunities to do other things with that cap space.

So Colorado, who won the central, was desperate for d help, but Washington wasn't? You even said that washington was a cluster, so aren't they desperate for leadership? Doesn't that signing fit 2 needs?
Iginlia who's 3 years older, signs a 3 year deal at the same price is ok, but not Orpik. And his stats have been declining as well as his skating
I guess you pick and choose who it's ok for and who is atrocious
Washington is desperate for a front office that knows what they're doing. They don't. They fucked themselves over well before they ever signed Orpik with how they've been handling that organization. His signing just a continuation of it. It's going to take a hell of a lot more than him (who if they let him stick around will become the highest paid bottom pairing d-man in the league in a year or two) to change things around.

And yeah, those Colorado signings are different. Stuart ONE year left on his deal. Briere ONE year left on his deal. No cap space is tied up beyond this season for those two. The Avs opened up an additional 4 million for next season. Iginla (who may retire before his contract is up) is still playing well (and who didn't sign for the same contract length as Orpik) and takes up the cap space Statsny occupied, and they need to re-sign O'Reilly and Barrie with what they have leftover (around 10 million). They had to choose between signing Stastny or multiple other players. These teams are in different situations. Vastly different situations.

Ever heard of Ryan Suter dipshit?

yah thats the guy making 12 mill a season right now ( over two times as much as Keith) and who sucked balls at the Olympics with his pal Orpik. Ribeiro plays better D than Suter. Come on ****** give me another Yanky.
