Again, Toews and Kane share the same agent as Crosby. Do you honestly think he wants them to go for a huge salary and reduce the teams depth? I'm pretty sure after his number one client getting torn to shreds in the media, the last thing he wants is them not to have a solid supporting cast. Despite being an agent and wanting as much money as possible, he still wants the players best interest at heart and a max salary like those reported would make them highly paid, and highly miserable.

Highly miserable?

Come on... What, exactly, would make them miserable?

Can barely afford goat milk flown in fresh from Cambodia on a daily basis, and the monthly payments for the Chevy Cruze.

Miserable as in the team will suck.

Dreger is reporting Toews and Kane are signed for 10.5 average each for 8 years. See ya depth!!!!

LOL...they won't suck...they'll be fine. These are the 2 most important players on the team. Those were the 2 that are irreplaceable and will now be kept through their prime.

With those 2, they will always be competitive

All I'm saying is Stan will have an even tougher job as next season he has 15 players signed and 3 million left to split between 7 more.

So the fact is they won't "suck"

They believe in their system/draft picks...and will rely on that. It will mean the end of Sharp, Oduya, possibly Seabrook - 3 players north of 30 that combine to make 15mil.

But they have plenty of top picks they've allowed to develop in the next few years, will expect to have an impact.

Um, yeah... try again.

88 and 19 are still miles above what this team had before and just after the lockout of 04-05.

On D... They'll have prospects Fournier, Van Reimsdyk, Dahlbeck, Johns, Clendening that can fight for Seabrook's and Oduya's spot after this season Any combination of those 2 will make @7mil less than Seabrook and Oduya

Well... at least this deal means there is finally something to talk about on here... too bad the price of it kills any notion of Ribeiro being able to come here. We can't afford that kind of talent anymore.

"Team will suck" might be a bit of overkill. The biggest thing will be moving some of these higher contracts out (Seabs, Sharp, Bickell even Hossa) and finding a replacement that's near par. I have faith Stan can do it and with his drafting and developing it's very realistic. If the cap goes up more it will obviously help each year.

No doubt Kane and Toews are worth every penny. Just need to hope management can keep the depth at lower prices and developing unlike the Pens are doing.

3.2 million assumes the cap stays the same

and the Canadian TV deal kicks in next year, so it will go up a few mil just based on that.

We will see wholesale roster changes after the 2014/15 season. Still glad they got the deal done.

Had hoped for 1 mil less for each, but it is what it is. They need to win it this upcoming season so the next couple of years of being a top-heavy team without the depth to go all the way can be more enjoyable.
