The upcoming trade deadline I think will be the usual, nothing big, since the Hawks will probably be pretty set for a deep run. The summer after, as you said, will on the other hand be eventful. They went through it once already, lets hope they can do it again and not waste too many years floundering before finding themselves back in the race for the Stanley's mug.

Feel stupid asking, but do the Hawks have any options regarding Hossa and his contract? Buyout? Cut him? Trade would be out of the question considering no one wants to touch his contract.

Are hawks basically stuck with his contract until he retires?

I think for the money, so far, it's been a great contract.

Am I mistaken in that these contracts, being extentions don't change anything for the upcoming season really? We should see the whole roster pretty much intact? I can see this as being a good thing because it could be the last hurrah of the team as we know it and add a little extra motivation to those who may or may not be around next year?

correct, the new contracts only go into affect starting the 2015-2016 season. This upcoming season will probably be the last season everyone is together.

Then it's back to 2011 :)

I agree, especially since at 35, Hossa *still* has excellent game in all 3 zones. Sharp, in spite being younger, doesn't.

I honestly think if Hoss is moved it's near the end of his career in a number of years. I think of the "core" Sharp is the 1st to go (not that I like losing Sharp). Saad or a combo of Saad/Shaw can come close to replicating him on the ice.

In my opinion, Hossa is the strongest player with the puck. Once he has it, it's hard to take it from him. He always surprises me with how strong he is, which is odd because I see it constantly and I'm still surprised.

Apparently they both got 44 million in signing bonuses. It's pretty easy to take less money than what they would've gotten in the open market when you get that much up front. Assuming they invest it wisely they'll easily make much more.

Gonna miss this team, hopefully the cap goes way up. If we can find a taker for Versteeg and Sharp I think we can come out of this okay but it's gonna be tricky.

Plenty-o-teams'll take Sharp in a heartbeat. Dale might take Verturnover.

IMHO that's one of the reasons I have him ahead of Sharp. If Hossa goes cold on the scoring side he is still strong in all three zones--in spite of going on 36 next year. Sharp if he goes cold on the scoresheet is a warm body out there--nothing bad but doesn't really make up for it.

Sharp hasn't really slowed his scoring pace and Hossa shows no signs of slowing down as a defensive stalwart (I'm actually surprised he's never won the Selke). It would be tough to lose either but it might just have to happen.

I knew they should have traded Kane for Miller when they had the chance.

Funny. I got a ping from NHL that said Corey Schneider just signed for 7 years. Capgeek has him at 6 AAV. Couple that with Miller also getting 6 AAV. Between those two getting their 6 IMHO it makes Crawford's deal less and less of an anomaly--after all, he does have a cup and Jennings to his name.

Can't trade for the same player you traded while retaining part of his salary.
