Isn't that the little spazz weight lifting dude who got banned from here for making Crys salty in a workout thread?

I forget his name.

Rosettastoned, and nah, he was a competitive lifter and trainer.

No, you did however mention that everything that was high fat was also high protein though....

No, I actually did not. You're making the same stupid ass mistake Silence did and took one string of conversation about eggs and convoluted it.

FWIW, Keto is bullshit. It's just a calorie cut. It's not special.

Also, I F is bullshit. There's no different in the results between it and a normal calorie cut diet.

I eat 3k a day, maybe more and maybe less on some days if I’m not as hungry. Don’t really count calories cause it’s not necessary. Just ball parking it. And everything you’ve said about Keto and IF is completely wrong. People, like you, attack it cause you don’t know anything about it and are married to the standard diet pushed that has turned America obese. Keto is not, specifically, a calorie cut nor is IF. You can stick to Keto forever and not cut calories. You can fast 16, 18 or more hours per day and still take in as many calories as you ever did. You’re simply keeping your insulin at baseline for a much longer time than people normally do and you’re burning fat instead of sugar. Being a sugar burner is the equivalent of being a mouth breather.

The problem with cutting calories while on the high carb standard American diet and working out harder is it’s only a temporary thing in which those who do it wreck their metabolisms and put back on the weight and then some at the end of their diet.

Neither IF or Keto will wreck the metabolism as the commonly used diet does. You need not cut calories. There are people who have stayed on Keto for years. When treating medical conditions, patients are advised to stay on it for 3 years.

The difference is both in the longer run and health wise. Keto or fasting, for that matter, is not going to slow down the metabolism as normal calorie restriction does 100% of the time. If there were an ounce of truth to the calorie in/calorie out bullshit, most of America would not be overweight.

I dont know anything about keto? Is it another diet fad?
What worked for me was watching my macros and calorie intake and burning more calorie than i took in . If i remember my calorie intake was 1,800- 2000 calories a day. People always told me i needed more but i was good on it .I did the fasting 24/4 but i gave that shit up. You need a plan you can stick too and fasting was not for me .

The Atkins diet has been around for several decades and was born of the Keto diet before people knew what Keto was. Doctors actually came up with the Keto diet 100 years ago to heal people with epilepsy.

When fasting for a longer period of time, the body goes into autop.hagy, a process in which it basically heals itself. The Keto diet was created to mimic the fasted state and was used as a medical treatment before it was ever used as a diet intended to lose weight.

I don't pay much, or I should say any heed to diets, calorie counting, or intake. But there may be some validity here. I've always been a one or two meal a day guy. Very rarely breakfast, and usually earlier dinners, so there is always about an 18 hour break in eating between dinner and the first bite the next day. I try to eat somewhat wisely, but I don't limit myself in any way. Never work out, or go running, but walk a lot, and am always active. I'm 51 with a 30" waist, 5'11 165-170 lbs.

I'm a little guy too sparty.

How much do they pay you to pump keto?

I'd wager you've been in ketosis on multiple occasions without even realizing it.

Calling keto a 'diet' is really disingenuous in itself tbh.. it's not really a diet, more akin to a shift in thinking.

Perhaps. My point was I don't put a lot of thought into it, and likely never will. I didn't call keto a diet though, just said that I don't pay much attention to diets and food fads, or calorie counting in an attempt to cover most of what was talked about here.

If I have a pet theory to good health, it's more in line with good mental health, and engagement with people and life. Food to me is an adjunct of that.

I’m about your age and don’t remember ever being less than 190, even in HS, and as I said my entire adult life was between 200-225 pounds. When I needed to drop back to 200 I knew I’d just have to stop the late night snacks. Never had the urge to go below 200 cause I felt it would make me feel to week.

Started Keto last May and started it not so much to lose weight but do address the Crohn’s I was dealing with and, I also reasoned it looked like a way to drop that 20 pounds again.

The stomach problems stopped after the first week of doing it. Lost the 20 pounds after just one month and was happy to stop right there but wanted to keep with Keto and IF cause not only wasn’t my stomach not bothering me, but my back wasn’t acting up at anytime anymore either. So stuck with it, did not restrict calories and did not work out. Got a job and 4 kids, no time for that shit. I didn’t feel I needed to lose any more weight anyway but the fat just kept melting off. My weight kept dropping til it reached 175 and then stabilized there. If only I had known long ago that it was this easy.

Yeah, my 2nd comment wasnt directed towards anyone in particular. I just see it called a 'diet' all too often and that term doesn't really apply here.

I'm not one to tell people how to live. If you have something that works, that's awesome, stay fit and happy and enjoy life. However, I do have an issue when people just spout from the hip with literally zero knowledge and try to come off as subject experts. Going keto works. It works for everyone, and will continue to work for everyone, and the reasons it works extend far past this "calorie in calorie out" bullshit. Same holds true for IF.

Spartan, I don't mock what works for people and makes them happy (except maybe purchasing TV star panties).

I was a chubby kid in grade school, but grew out of it. When I was in HS and University playing football, I was up around 190-195, and I worked out a fair bit then. I tried to maintain that after, until I was diagnosed with ankylosing spondilitis, and a concern for developing crohn's. I adjusted what I eat somewhat, more by addition than subtraction. Once I stopped working out, and trying to bulk, I leveled at about 170 and have remained there without much effort. The weight loss definitely aided the back, and I like to think the minor diet changes have helped also, but I wouldn't swear by it.

I bet the weight loss helped a lot with your back pain, and dumping the late night snacks with your stomach.

Fair enough, but I still hold my right to question the long term benefits of a strictly keto diet. I guess some will be the guinea pigs for that.

The back problem wasn't much of an issue at the time. It was but not as much as it had been since I first hurt it. It wasn't a constant source of pain. More the type thing where it would feel sore in the morning but after moving around some, showering and moving around a bit more, it would loosen up and be good for the rest of the day. Just always felt fragile, like it could be thrown out easily and I had thrown it out a few times, once with nothing more than a big sneeze. Feels stronger now. I like that I don't have to be overly cautious with it. Fasting/keto have an anti-inflammatory effect on the body. Could be that as much as any weight loss.

With my stomach, that was a bigger problem and the main target of what I was looking for help for. I never thought Chrohn's was anything but a dietary thing, perhaps some specific foods I couldn't tolerate for whatever reason. It's not as if I didn't give that a lot of consideration and change what I'd eat often long before I ever knew what keto was. It was at its worst for the past 2 or 3 years. Didn't matter what I ate, the pain was coming. There was one thing that caused a more immediate reaction than any other though. It was red meat. Whenever I'd eat it, need be near the toilet in about 15 minutes and after that the intense cramps would come. So I went a long time without eating red meat or maybe I'd eat it once a month or so, always the same reaction. Before that, tried gluten free, dairy free, damn near anything that could be considered suspect. Tried eating smaller meals when I realized bigger meals also brought it on more even if those meals didn't contain the red meat. So I started searching for cures for this damn thing and happened on keto. Keto is, of course, all about fats and meats so thought my problem eating red meat might make it a bit more difficult but after the first week, I was feeling good so gave some red meat a try and held my breath. Had absolutely no negative reaction to it and have since eaten it, probably, a lot more often than anyone should. No problems with red meat or big meals since starting keto/IF and not a single stomach cramp either. Make of it what you will. Doesn't bother me if people think it's a placebo effect or whatever, the problem's gone and that's all I care about.
