*** DUMB COMMENT TO FOLLOW ***

My wife has a shellfish allergy, and I've often wondered if we went on vacation to the Mediterranean if her having mussels there would affect her like it would here.

Interesting, maybe. I think mussels 'eat' by filtering water, so probably cleaner water would mean cleaner mussels. No idea if that is what creates allergies though.

My wife hasn't been able to eat shellfish since she was pregnant, and it was literally one time in a restaurant, when she just smelled some scallops, that did it to her.

Most are also high in fat, the good fat and not the heavily processed fats. They also eat both smaller portions and less frequently while avoiding junk food and sugary drinks.

Not at all. Maybe in Europe, not in Asia, where they don't eat a lot of fat and usually don't eat small portions.

Obviously less sugary drinks and junk food, as I wrote previously.

mussels was just a quick example. Can even say lobster or crab. I just wonder if the preservatives, or whatever it is we do to our food has an affect that way.

Yup. Ever been to Japan? People literally eat a bowl of rice with every meal. Not just every day. Japan has THE LOWEST obesity rate for any developed country in the world. What is happening is most people in Japan are A) ectomorphs or mesomoprhs and B) they eat almost no processed foods. They eat fresh fruit for desert. Oh and they don't eat sushi rolls filled with cream cheese and garbage. They eat sashimi and nagiri.

I actually lived in Japan for a bit. I didn't think they ate a bowl of rice with every meal. They do, hoever, eat really good food, very little processed food, and live healthy lifestyles. I'd also attribute it to a good gene pool, though.

Keto and Intermittent Fasting

Dude, most people are overweight or obese because they can't follow ANY diet. Just look around at what people are eating in public everyday!

Calorie in / calorie out is scientifically proven. It is not a hypothesis or a theory. It is the LAW of Thermodynamics. You even said yourself that people on these diets screw up their metabolisms (which is wrong BTW if you do it correctly). The thing though is that your own statement is AGREEING with the calories in / calories out because when you slow your metabolism you burn less calories. When you burn less calories, you have to eat less to stay out of a calorie surplus.

Even if you are eating more on IF and Keto and losing weight, all that proves is your metabolism is more efficient at burning the calories. You still are in a calorie deficit.

Most people fail because the model provided for them is a fail. When you restrict calories, you **** up your metabolism long term. This was show in the Biggest Loser study. Those people would have had to eat 500-1000 calories less per day than a person their size just to maintain their weight. That is why they always gain the weight back. It is a fail model that leads to failure.

I eat 3000 calories a day and maintain a weight of 175 and you want to call that a calorie deficit when the standard diet you people tout would put you at half those calories and have you busting your ass in the gym? C’mon, man.

I'd be surprised if there are much preservatives in shellfish, but I'm not sure. I think one of the reasons why they're so expensive is that they have to be shipped either fresh in the cold or flash frozen.

I've read that protein takes much more energy to digest than carbs and fats, and therefore eating it actually burns a lot of calories relative to the other macros.

Why do you think those people were on the Biggest Loser to begin with? Because they morphed into obese people due to being in an extreme calorie surplus for years and years. Then they went on an extreme diet where they cut calories more than they had to. So yes, THOSE PEOPLE fucked up their metabolisms. Your standard 30 lb overweight person that lowers calories with a goal of losing 1-2 lbs a week is not going to **** up their metabolism.

Spartan,

If you think that IF and Keto are the best ways to get in shape and stay in shape, you can believe that. If that keeps you motivated knowing you are doing the best thing for your body, then good for you.

I will do what works for me and we will call it a day.

The average American eats over 200 lbs of meat per year. The average Japanese eats about 80 lbs of meat per year. Of course lifestyles are different also, exercise, etc. And for the Japanese, food is a pleasure and a joy, not a task.

The pendulum swings hard here when it comes to food. I still think balance, moderation, variety, and enjoyment are the keys to healthy eating.

Haha. Variety just means you’re putting a lot more different crap in ya. Doesn’t mean any of it is good.

I just find it funny how misinformed people are. And when they speak out against Keto, they sound outright stupid. Learn about it before you speak out about it.

There was a video Jillian Michaels put out that was anti-Keto. Got a lot of views. Got close to 2000 thumbs up. And got close to 10,000 thumbs down! Why didn’t so many like what she was saying? Cause she sounded like a damn fool.

She first admits Keto will make you lose fat quickly. Then admits autoph.agy is a good thing that helps the body heal. Then she goes all off course with a childish stupid tone in her voice. She said Keto causes inflammation even though studies have shown the opposite to be true, that carbs and sugars act like toxins in the body and cause inflammation. She said a lot of stupid stuff but the most stupid was when she said being in Ketosis is not good cause it’s like the body being in a state of emergency.

Truth is everybody goes into Ketosis at different points and times. There is nothing unnatural about it. And look what she herself does, works out hard daily to burn fat. On the Biggest loser, she hovered over the fatties and bullied them to get them to work out harder and burn fat. I wonder how she thinks people burn fat during exercise cause as anyone, with a half a brain knows, the body cannot burn fat directly. It has to convert the fat to ketones which can then be used as fuel and effectively burned off. So there the dummy is, striving so hard to get herself and people she trains into Ketosis when working out and then saying it’s not good to be in Ketosis cause it puts your body in an emergency state. Quite the dumb ****.

Fatman Lou seems like the type of guy I'd be excited to have a beer with, but then the novelty wears off halfway through the first one. Then you're stuck for at least an hour.
