Question for you and @spartan about IF.

Is it similar to Keto in that you have to be "on" for multiple days to begin to see the effects??

Or is it something that if I went IF three or four days a week and the rest of the time ate in a larger window that it would still be effective for the days that I did it?

I guess the simple question is: Is there a burn in period?

It's really quite simple, eat less and exercise more, the weight will fall off, like wise, eat more, exercise less, you will gain, there is no miracle diet.

There's no "burn in" period for IF, do it as often as you can.

Not everybody who does IF, does it every day. It can still be effective while doing it 3 or 4 times a week.

Really depends on your goals and what you’re trying to accomplish. Most use it as either a way to allow more time for autoph.agy or to allow your body more time to burn more fat on its own.

Keto and IF are very similar, as both force the body to burn ketones (fat) rather than sugar. Keto came about cause it was realized that a major benefit that came from fasting was the production of ketones

For people just looking to maintain their current weight and/or body fat %, doing IF just a few times per week can do that. For people looking to lose a lot of fat in little time, daily IF combined with Keto is the fastest route.

Biggest misconception, exercise has minimal affect in the weight loss process. Yes, it does speed it up and comes with tons of health benefits but it’s only around 10% of the actual weight loss. It’s what you eat.

And when you eat, and how much you eat. There's quite a few things that go into weight loss, "working out" is one of the lowest things on the list.

I’d even say exercise is even less effective than that with the average peeps who do their light workouts while sipping on their sugary sports drinks. The idea behind burning fat while you exercise is you need to work out hard enough to first deplete the glycogen already in your system, then you can burn fat. Light workouts or constantly replenishing your sugar level isn’t going to do much of anything for ya.

Speaking of workout vs diet... your diet is so much more important.

A while ago, a co-worker of mine was doing the new Orange Theory workouts and told me I could try it out for free. I did and it was a SENSATIONAL workout. I wouldn't call it HIIT, but it was close to that and was a lot of fun. I bring this up though because they wanted to get me to join (ofcourse!). I told them though that their prices were not justified for me because I already know how to get a good workout in and more importantly, yeah you can get good workout in and burn 750 calories in a workout. However, you can then go sabotage that by eating a burger, fries, and a shake right after. And I have seen this all to much. People think they can "reward" themselves for a great workout. No... you fucking can't. Not if you want to ever be in shape. You can always out eat a workout.

What I have come to understand is the primary weight loss driver for a low carb diet is calories.

On a low carb diet you start to eat less over time because you are not as hungry. If you are moderately active you do need some carbs as they are able to burn very quickly for energy.

Typically with Atkins diet you start a baseline of 20 grams of carbs a day and then increase 5 grams a day as long as you stay in ketosis.

The carbs should be from veg and not processed. Also too much fat is bad because they are twice as much calories in fat per gram than either protein or carbs. Although some fat is ok and necessary.

To do low carb properly lean meat with raw veg based carbs and a smidgen of fruit always works best for me. No processed carbs.

I was down to about 1500 calories a day and was able to work out just fine as long as I monitored the timing of my carb intake.

Carbs are the DEVIL!

I stuck to Atkins over the weekend.... not drinking any booze was the hardest part.

I am down like 3lbs to where I would normally be on a Monday.

For like a year my weight just fluctuates up 2-3lbs over Friday-Sunday, and then down 2-3lbs Monday-Thursday.

First time in a while I am down 3lbs on a Monday morning.

Starchy carbs are the devil, so are alcoholic beverages. Hard to not have a couple if you go out on the weekend.
