Carbs are the DEVIL!

I stuck to Atkins over the weekend.... not drinking any booze was the hardest part.

I am down like 3lbs to where I would normally be on a Monday.

For like a year my weight just fluctuates up 2-3lbs over Friday-Sunday, and then down 2-3lbs Monday-Thursday.

First time in a while I am down 3lbs on a Monday morning.

The Atkins diet is not high enough in fat. Be careful.

Been doing it a week, feel pretty good.

What do you mean?
It's a higher protein than fat diet. It's hard to even make it into ketosis that way. If your body doesn't have enough fat to where it realizes it can use ketones instead of glucose as an energy source, it can convert proteins to glucose.. which is even harder on your body. That process is taxing and highly inefficient.

I don't know your macros, and admittedly I don't know how this differs with your diabetic situation, but just a warning to heed. You need a high fat intake. It's pivotal.

I’m not sure what macros Atkins calls for but was my understanding it was keto for first 2 weeks and slowly added more carbs after. As far as fats, I take in about 225g-250g.

Looking at your calorie intake, if you’re shooting for 70-75% of fat, I’d say you need just a bit more, about 20g more for that amount of calories. Really easy to add that. Just adding 1 tbsp of an oil like coconut oil or olive oil will give you 14g of extra fat right there. Tbsp of real butter will give you 11g. 1 avocado will give you a bit over 20g. Probably an ounce of nuts like macadamia or pecan would give you about 20g as well.

Starchy carbs are the devil, so are alcoholic beverages. Hard to not have a couple if you go out on the weekend.

I suck.

I went out Friday with friends to see a band at a local pub. Ate a burger with no bread, drank iced tea......then started drinking beer and had about ten!

That will not work when trying to lose weight. I do well for 4 days and set my self back three days in one Friday night.

I add bacon fat, maybe 1-2TBS when I cook my eggs.

But I don't log it on the tracker.... I bet that gets me there.

Edit: Plan /w bacon fat accounted for.

The bacon fat very likely does get you there.

I tried some My fitness app and hated it.

This is the Atkins Meal Tracker... you can sign up with them for free and use the tools, they don't charge any fees....they actually, oddly, don't push their products very much on the site.

When Atkins was first popular, I went low carb and had success.

After adding back weight, I went low carb again, this time while South Beach had become the more popular, less fat version of Atkins.

Once again, after gaining weight, I am going low carb, this time during the Keto craze.

In none of the cases have I followed a strict prescribed diet. I just avoid carbs as best I can. This time around I do want to get more guidance on Keto and try to stick more closely to something prescribed. But in all cases I have had success.

I have been reducing carbs for about a month or a little more, and I am down close to 20. I have not tried the fasting, but may do that as well. I am not as into the "macros" and all that as some others here, but perhaps I need to be. Still learning about the Keto.

I initially signed up for a "plan", but when the first week called for Brussel Sprouts for breakfast, I went freelance and made omelettes.

Good luck to anyone out there working on losing weight.

My fitness pal isnt bad
I didn't like it.

It tried to tell me what to consume rather than just letting me tell it what I consumed.
