This is actually, pretty much the way they won the cup. Core, Plan, Sign Key piece, fill with kids.

also makes you wonder if someone will tap Tallon on the shoulder and say 'enough already'. Seems like he's trying to build Blackhawks #2 in Florida. This is where you want your GM to have a clean break from his old club. Too many strings here still seem to be attached by Tallon to Chicago.

Trade for players that helped the Blackhawks win the Cup? What a terrible idea... you're right.

That's still a lot of changes though. And for every Crawford you develop, you end up with lots of Skilles, Dowells, and Stahlbergs. You have to balance your core with some proven vets. Otherwise it appears to just be a crap shoot each year waiting for your kids to show you if they have anything.

You can't trade for veterans. At some point you ahve to get the talent you have a shot or they will get pissed off and bolt. It's called using your system. It's worked very well up to this point. Last year they lost 11 players. This year so far 3 that might have had a roster spot.

Talent not named Crawford will not stay in Rockford for ever without leaving. Kopecky held up a spot for a REAL 4th liner, which he was not.

Championship teams build aroudn the CORE. Which is exactly what they are doing. Kopecky, Brouwer, were not part of the core.

could have not put it better. I like what we are doing shedding salary not deserved and freeing up space for what is needed. Just noticed V. Leno is also a free agent. not bad for someone that only made 870k last season. I like his style and was a former wing, I think he would fit good with hossa and bolly, what you guys think if we can get him cheap???

They love Dale. I wouldn't doubt OTHER players with a Stanley Cup from that year head that way. They didn't love Stan, they Loved Dale. It's quite clear and has been.

Hawks are doing just what they need to win and getting something for someone that was leaving either way. Good for them and good for Dale getting Vets that might help his very YOUNG team.

I don't like the 'rebuild' direction it appears we're heading down. When you win the cup, you patch and replace, not overhaul. Kopecky was a steal at $1M per. If he was asking for $2.5M and up then yeah I would part with him too - too expensive at that number. But stockpiling picks? Ugh! Would rather we traded for veterans. Most picks are just nothing more than prospects anyhow and who knows how they'll pan out.

This type of move is done in all sports. If you know a player is going to be asking for more than you'll offer you take what you can get in trade instead of just letting him walk, and move on. The Hawks were fortunate to get anything for him under these circumstances.

Its kind of like when they traded Wiz for Paulsen. You remember that one don't you?

Wiz was going to be asking for more than the Hawks were offering, so if you can get something, you make a deal even if the return is'nt comparable.

I thought Philly was tryng to resign him. Either way I like what Stans done so far. Now lets see what he does to bring in 1-2 Vets to round out the Roster.

Can't have it both ways Stu. You can't say these are players we don't want here and then say these are great pickups for Florida cause they were with Hawks during Stanley Cup.

We can't afford them and Florida can.

In sports you can have it both ways.

Certain players fit better in different systems.

In Kopecky's case-- he may get a decent raise, but he won't have the support in Florida like he had in Chicago.

No matter. His salary is off the books to invest elsewhere.

I told you yesterday they had no intentions of bringing him back.

If they had no intentions of bringing him back they wouldn't have waited until 4 days before Free Agency to trade him. He must have wanted too much.

Kop had a good year last year, but previously I did not care much for him. As far as those who will fill the slot, I am dissappointed that Beach hasn't lived up to the promise he had once shown. I would like to see his size, grit and scoring potential up with the big club.

Florida is NOT a team of superstars. Kopecky is a great fit for them. Where as here he's on the FOURTH LINE. Stu makes a great point. A team rebuilding from SCRATCH needs those players. A team rounding out it's roster, already full of MASSIVE ALLSTAR TALENT, has no room to slot them.

It's all slot allocation. You learn that watching hockey over time. Kopecky is not a good 4th liner and on the HAWKS that's about all thats open

Sharp-Toews-Kane

Morin---Center----Hossa

Frolik-Bolland-Bickell

I don't see a spot for Kopecky? Anyone else? Unless he's IMPROPERLY slotted on the FOURTH LINE! OI VEY...

I do too. Like Alui he has the talent. Like Alui he doesn't seem to have the head. Although I thought he was ahead of Alui in that department. I would have liked to see Beach in the playoffs this past year personally.

He's big, he hits, he has a shot, but he has not fucking brain so far.

Not necessarily. Testing the trade waters was a good idea. They may have had no intention on re-signing. Getting anything in return was a bonus at this point.

I don't think so. I think they were talking about this the other day and couldn't come to an agreement. It was the other deal Tallon was talking about that fell through. Least that's what I'd guess. They were waiting to see what was going to happen with Campbell IMO.

Meh, doesn't really matter to me anymore. I'm sure he was asking for too much anyway.

We are charmin soft now, need to pick up some physical players or we'll have trouble next year. Upwards of 350+ hits gone now. I can care less about Dowell but Kopecky and Brouwer leaving hurts us if they are not replaced.

You can enhance natural skills but I am not sold on making a hot head (like Beach) into something that his brain is obviously not wired for. Maybe I will be proven wrong...
