Or you could be a borderline wildcard team and still get a top 5 pick due to shitty luck like missed DPI penalties, injuries, and close unlucky 1 score game losses.

I would say that’s much better than that 8-8 Mitch trubisky team that made the playoffs in meaningless fashion then had to trade another 1st round pick to draft fields instead of just drafting him outright.
That is all speculation with the benefit of hindsight. If we were sitting at say #11 we are sitting ducks. It's very possible Vikings actually pony up to jump us instead of waiting it out. If not the Vikings, another team.

It's also possible sitting at #11 we feel pressured to trade up to #3 or #4 to ensure we got one pf the top QB. Maybe we do what the 49ers did or close to it. Afterall, Justin falling out of the top 10 was unprecedented considering the QB needy Panthers and Broncos were picking at #8 and #9. We would have likely felt the need to jump those teams if we were really targeting Justin.

It's not as easy as just saying we could have got Fields if we lost a few more games. Doing what we did is exactly the type of move KC made to jump up to get Mahomes.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass but you're literally saying it's better to be a playoff team with few holes than a bottom 5 team with a lot of holes?

Earlier you sad it's better to be a playoff team with a lot of cap space than a bad team with a lot of cap space.

Wow.

But I think what you're suggesting - incorrectly - is that if the Bears would somehow make the playoffs they'd be closer to a Super Bowl win. But actually, that is not true. It's about the talent you have not simply whether you made the playoffs.

The 2020 Bears made the playoffs and the Super Bowl got farther away, not closer.

It's not simply linear. At least in terms of record, the Bears are a worse team right now than the Falcons and Commanders, for example. But the Bears path to contending is every bit as good as that of the Falcons and Commanders. I would argue the Cardinals as well. And the Lions, Saints, Panthers.....

I wouldn't trade places with any of them right now. (And Bears fans have not been able to say that about anyone other than Detroit for years)
I'm assuming that teams that win more games and make the playoffs have fewer voids to fill on their roster when the offseason comes. You dont get to the playoffs by outright sucking. You have to win ganes and have players that make winning plays.

Therefore, when you have a young team with many players on cheap rookie contracts/prove it deals that wins enough ganes to make the playoffs...well, that's a really good thing. It means you have players playing above their contracts and you can spend your cap space on good players to fill the voids on the roster.

The 2020 Bears were different in that Trubisky was on his final year and we spent all our cap space. I dont think we were as far away though as some portray. We had to take some hits (Kyle Fuller) to the roster the next offseason..But all in all we had a winnable roster. Nagy was just a terrible play caller. We had Justin, just didn't have a staff to utilize him correctly.

THEY'RE A FUCKING REBUILDING TEAM. did you catch the part where they're dealing players for draft picks? they neutered their own defense and they're still holding in games. because they're going to get like 3-4 players next year now.

rebuilding teams don't make the playoffs and they don't win playoff games. they don't make it to the Super Bowl.

you sound like a fucking angry 10 year old child cause your team isn't winning. there's other shit to be mad about. your NFL team isn't one of them.
Didn't they trade away one of those picks for Claypool? Your "stud" QB has thrown for 200 yds once this season........once!!
And when the game is on the line he folds like a cheap suit.
Enjoy!!
Nice pick 6
Nice taking two sacks on the last two drives!

To be fair, the bears still have all of their picks. That second was one they gained from the Roquan Smith trade.
And it didn't look like our "stud" QB folded at all. In fact, I think you are down a db because he "folded" him in the endzone.

I think all of this playoff talk for this team is ridiculous. Playoff teams don't trade away their best defensive players and anyone who thinks we couldn't have used at least Quinn and Roquan today is doing some serious drugs, and I'm not talking street drugs, I'm talking drugs where your private doctor is administering them to you at your home.

And by the way, thanks for allowing the bears to move up and pick before you do.

Believe it or not, the Bears were well alive in the playoff hunt before today's loss to the Lions. Contrary to what some boneheaded posters said about draft positioning, losses to the Commanders, Giants, Lions, etc were devastating to our playoff chances. Those games actually had meaning for the present. Despite many rejoicing when we lost, winning just 2 of those games would put us at 5-5, and put us around 30-50% chance of making the playoffs with upcoming matches against the Falcons and Jets.

But I digress. According to this site, we now have around 1% chance of making the playoffs. Our season officially has no meaning from a postseason perspective.

So, now is the time to officially move on from 2022 and start looking ahead to 2023 and the offseason..doing so before now would have been malpractice, but now is warranted..

I propose:

1. Cut ESB and Dante Pettis - they are taking snaps from younger guys and aren't really doing much as it is.

2. Activate Velus Jones and Nkeal Harry - give VJJ the end around and see if Justin builds a connection with either guy. ESB and Pettis have run their course. No connection.

3. Make offense more pass friendly - F*** controlling the clock or shortening the game. That doesn't matter any more. We know we can run effectively. Now try and build the passing game. Get Claypool at least 5 targets a game. See what we have in our other guys. That doesn't mean abandoning the run. Just do it a little less.

4. Put VJJ back on punt/kick returns - let the guy build up some confidence again. Who cares if he fumbles? We are used to the defense giving up endless points anyways.

5. Defensive Youth Movement - all we can do is just keep giving our young guys opportunities. No thankyou to AJ Klein or Joe Thomas getting playing time. Let's see Sterling Weatherford at LB.

6. Try some tempo and lengthen the game. - Again, there is no need to shorten the game anymore. Let's see if some more tempo opens up more passing lanes. Justin already has defenses huffing and puffing trying to catch him. Why not try and capitalize on this by speeding up the playcall?

NOTE: I did not say anything about now purposely losing. I do not believe in doing that. You still try and win, but there are higher objectives to accomplish in the game now. You are more so in evaluation mode and making winning plays is still a good thing.

What say you?
do you think the players are idiots? you say its not about losing but you want to clearly put in inferior players for a youth movement and you dont think the players are going to care that flus is going back on his word? If your truly going for wins you dont put in inferior players...you might as well put an asterisk on the winning part...

Weren’t you and visionless the ones telling us how we were all going to be shocked and wrong when we talked about how bad the bears were going to be this year and you were taking names? Why the sudden change?

Props to you, you’re still here taking punches from your meatball prediction while gracing us with more bad ones.

Lol Velus Jones can’t catch the ball, so put him in, but ‘we’re not intentionally losing.’ ESB is the best run blocking wr and the bears go off tackle often so get rid of him when you’re carving teams up for 220+ on the ground? Young guys are getting reps on defense already. The offense can find tempo, they don’t finish drives. Passing is hard when your backup RT (and RG when he’s not hurt) are the only guys who can pass block.

Shame visionless can’t sack up and give us some more bad predictions.

The only issue I have with the premise is that it is a lack of self-awareness to have not known that this year was all about 2023 to begin with, no matter what happened.

Sure, wins would be nice, but everything is about 2023 - no one should be worrying about 2022 right now.
