The shield is a show about an LAPD strike team that deals with gangs, drugs, etc.

BTW, if anyone hasn't seen the new BBC Sherlock series, its fuckin great.

I've had this recommended to me and was tempted, but I tried Dr. Who on your suggestion, and while it had it's good aspects, it was ruined by saccharine sentimentality. Tearjerker every show.

The new Sherlock doesn't have any of the tongue in cheek. Its serious and gritty and a modern show.

Also, not sure how far you got in Dr. who, but it took me at least 3 episodes till I wasn't like wtf is this crap, and then into the second season until I loved it.

Eh? I found the first 2 seasons of the bbc sherlock to be pretty campy. Haven't seen the 3rd season

Anyone watching that Starz series that 50 Cent produced?

Power is entertaining. 50 Cent has a role in it but he's horrible, no acting ability whatsoever. The rest of the show is good.

Hmm. I didn't. Maybe I'm not remembering right. I remember some quips in the dialog, but mostly pretty straight forward. I guess maybe how they build up Sherlock as a genius a little, but I bought it.

Someone suggested the show The Strain to me for a new sci-fi kick.... 4 episodes in and I am liking it thus far.

I'm on season 6. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the show. I'm just disappointed by all the sentimentality and tearjerker crap that they keep throwing into every show. I do appreciate how they counter the episodic nature of the show with connective story lines, and I'm enjoying the performance of Matt Smith as the Doctor at this point. Could have been better if they concentrated more on the darker side of the Doctor and left the mawkishness at the door of the TARDIS.

Lol, the thing is that as you watch and cringe at the maudlin parts, at the same time you are a little verklempt.

I am finding carnivale underwhelming except for clancy brown right now. I ended up liking deadwood quite a bit, these 6+ years later

I watched Carnivale when it was first run. I was in Taiwan at the time, so it was watched due to lack of choice for English programming and enjoyed for the same reason. Not sure I'd feel the same way now. Same thing for 6 Feet Under.

Deadwood I watched fairly recently and really enjoyed it.

If you haven't checked it out yet, if you're looking for a random quirky/funny show, New Girl was solid. I thought it was going to blow but actually enjoyed it.

My mom watches that show.... I almost always blacklist shows if my mom or sisters like them lol.... but that is because they tend to watch Teen Mom, Sister Wives, The Voice, Grey's Anatomy.... etc
