It kept my interest enough to finish it all and to binge on a it a few times. It's good, but not the best television show ever as so many like to think. I mean it's got a 9.6 rating on IMDB for **** sake. But then again everything is "epic" nowadays or the best ever, anything short of that and it's terrible apparently.

Here's a great quotation from Louis C.K:

"As humans, we waste the shit out of our words. It’s sad. We use words like “awesome” and “wonderful” like they’re candy. It was awesome? Really? It inspired awe? It was wonderful? Are you serious? It was full of wonder? You use the word “amazing” to describe a goddamn sandwich at Wendy’s. What’s going to happen on your wedding day, or when your first child is born? How will you describe it? You already wasted “amazing” on a fucking sandwich."

Thats what happens when you don't experience something until after being constantly barraged with how its the greatest ever.

I don't think it has anything to do with when you experience it, I think it's solely the latter part of your statement.

Watched Legends on TNT with Sean Bean as a undercover agent. Very good actor and the best part...Ali Lader (spelling? We all know her as the hottie from Varsity Blues....still looks great!)

Good so far

But you cant get overhyped if you experience it before the hype builds so much...

Same reason people watch citizen kane or casa blanca now and are like i dont get wats so great.

Once the wave crashes on something innovative on great, its hard to see what was so innovative or great about it anymore. See the argument about sopranos in the "rate the series" thread. Its why great art needs context to appreciate it as great (usually).

Unless you experience the shit as its breaking, its always gonna seem overrated.

That's usually the case for things that are quite older. You use Citizen Kane and Casablanca, the former came out in 1941, Breaking Bad wrapped up not even a full year ago. It's not like Breaking Bad is an old series. Plus after getting caught up, I was watching the episodes as they were being released. You want to know a current program that's overrated? Game of Thrones.

And it is possible to experience something before the hype builds and still find it overrated once the hype has arrived. For example I like this band Wolves in the Throne Room, think they're alright, but then they got a whole lot of undue praise and were completely overrated. And to your last statement, "unless you experience the shit as its breaking, its always gonna seem overrated," that's completely false. There are a ton of older things that I have found now that I absolutely love. Films like Annie Hall or Man Bites Dog, music like Townes Van Zandt, Nick Drake, Tom Waits, etc.

Well, I shouldn't have said always, but ok. Anyway, wasn't tryin to say you have to love breaking bad. I'm just so tired of the term overrated.

When you call something overrated, the implication is that a lot of people love something and they are wrong. The implication is that a bandwagon effect is happening and people either have bad taste or aren't genuine about loving the thing and are just gettin on the wagon.

I personally have big problems with the mindset of so many people that basically don't like a thing if it reaches a certain level of popularity.

Not that thats you. Just sayin. I don't like the term overrated. Much rather people just say how they feel and own it and refrain from deriding what other people like.

Maybe its just an overreaction to snark culture or pseudo hipster culture.

And with that you know I wasn't calling it overrated simply because it's popular ;)

That was a general rant. Not directed at anyone here. Just tired of it not being cool to like stuff or be emotionally invested in shit.
