so, wait, he want's to play less?

I think he is weighing more money and more playing time with the Bears vs the Seahawks being built to continue winning for the foreseeable future. Personally, I would probably choose the Seahawks with him and be like sorry lil bro, I want to win Super Bowls.

For those that are looking at the $8M vs $8.5M you should know it's all about the guaranteed money. If the Bears are offering an extra $0.5M per season, but the Seahawks have more guaranteed money it's a non starter.

That's like looking at Julius Peppers' $13.9M 2014 base salary thinking he'll get any of it.

The #Jets have released WR Santonio Holmes, the team announced. He had a $10.75M salary cap hit.

Whatever happened to him? He used to be really good.

so he wants less playing time?

move on

If he can play an extra 2-3 seasons because there's less tread on the tires then it's not a horrible business decision on his part.

This and continuity on and off the field. 8.5 compared to 8 is likely not worth the off field changes such as finding a new home and starting a new life when he likely comfortable in the city he just won a SB for.

not saying it is, but I don't want to spend that much on a part time player.

I said in another thread concerning Peppers that ,IMO,Mike was just using the Bears to bolster his pay w/the Hawks. Sure looks like it worked out that way!!!!!!!!!!!

Could also be preference. Think of some of the former greats like Derrick Thomas. Imagine if a team offered him a lesser deal, but said he'd only be playing obvious passing downs where his job is to solely get the QB. Hell, imagine offering the same deal to Decon Jones.

He'd be like "I can save all my anger just for the QB? Where do I sign?"

Looks like reloading this defense in one offseason was highly overstated

I went ahead and drew this out to its logical conclusion due to my OCD. I know that I'm missing a couple. I know there's a set of half-brothers who have different last names, but I can't remember who it is.

We're pretty weak at running back and we need some wide receivers. Other than that, we're in good shape.

An excessive amount of quarterbacks, but the offensive linemen are particularly talented.

I hope Mike is trolling his brother.
lol That'd be awesome.

Say what you will whoever said crap about "this isn't a playground" yada yada yada. I think taking more money on a team that was one game away from the playoffs with top 5 O in league and a D that was horrible injured and should be better. But more importantly, being able to play with my brother would be extremely important and awesome. Especially when Martellus seems like the guy who REALLY wants this to happen. I feel bad for him.

And he currently plays DE in a 4-3.

That doesn't change the fact that the Raiders have him playing out of position. He's a prototypical 4-3 UT, and very likely a Pro Bowler if he ever gets a chance. Why pay him FA money to play 2/3rds of his snaps at LE instead of the position he's most suited to?
