Hunters will tape the mouths shut in case the kill shot only KO'd the animal.

If it wakes up in the boat and freaks out, it cannot open its mouth to bite.

Could be an instance of this where the gator got away still taped.

If some asshole did tape it shut just to leave it tortured until it died of starvation that's unconscionable.
